Chapter 1451 - 54: Before That (2)

When she saw the document, Rafael halted her steps. After pausing briefly, she began talking about something else,"Earlier... I took Fisher to see my mother."

Moli was slightly taken aback by her words. She pressed her lips together but remained silent, waiting for Rafael to continue.

Rafael noticed Moli’s silence from the corner of her eye. Her emerald eyes revealed no surprise as she continued,

"Moli, you’re from outside the Dragon Court. Technically, none of this should concern you, but..."

"... Rafael, are you asking me to leave?"

Rafael looked at Moli with slight surprise but quickly shook her head, smiling as she replied,

"How could that be? In my heart, you’ve always been my good friend. Besides, I mean, matters of the Dragon Court shouldn’t involve you, but all these years, you’ve been helping me. Without your support, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I’m very grateful, and I deeply value our friendship... I don’t blame you for Fisher, Moli.

"If there’s anyone to blame, it’s him, for being a Nali with a wandering heart, and me, for not having the resolve to keep him to myself. You’ve told me much about your feelings for your teacher before. I know he saved you from peril, and I believe you can understand the respect and tacit understanding between Fisher and me... It’s just neither of us expected that we’d both long for the same person, leading to the awkward situation we have now."

Moli also looked embarrassed, lowering her head. The wavering candlelight cast flickering shadows across their faces,

"Rafael, I..."

"I took Fisher to see my mother, simply because I didn’t want him or me to have regrets. I wanted to show him the depth of my feelings and didn’t want my tail-matching partner to be just a one-sided notion, deceiving even parents and ancestors. If I could, I would even want to marry him, to make everything public... But you know, the current situation with the Dragon Court doesn’t allow for that. Barbatos and his army will be heading south soon; his terrifying power from two and a half years ago is still etched in my memory. Honestly, I have no idea how to confront him..."

Rafael lifted her claws, covered in scales, which were trembling slightly. Her muscles seemed to recall the pain of being shattered in an instant when she faced that terrifying foe.

Even though Moli’s healing and the passage of time have healed Rafael’s wounds, that terrifying power nestled deep in her heart, causing her to shudder with every recollection.

Could the legendary "Dragon Queen" be so timid, afraid of an enemy’s intimidation?

Actually, it’s not so. If she were truly cowardly, she wouldn’t appear calm and collected before the Dragon Court, her family, and Fisher, even if this composure was just a facade...

But that dreadfully insurmountable power is undeniable. According to Fisher, she hasn’t even glimpsed the gate of "Myth," yet she must confront an Eighteenth Rank being directly. Such a disparity in power would make anyone feel a sense of inadequacy and insurmountable despair.

Demon...

So that was the legendary demon.

Rafael didn’t know why demons colluded with humans and those puppets, but there’s no room for such questions on the battlefield. Having identified the enemy, Rafael’s sole focus could only be on how to defeat them.

Yet, after endless contemplation, she found no solution, which was the source of her helplessness.

Moli noticed Rafael’s slightly trembling hand. She too was a witness to that war, the one who saved an injured Rafael, so she understood the nature of the foe they faced.

Once again, she was reminded of her mother.

As a child, her mother told her that before she even reached the Mythical Rank, she had a conflict with a Mythical Rank angel, engaging in a fierce battle underwater. Despite being severely injured and lying on the sea floor for a long time, she explained that she felt exhilarated, unbothered by defeat, even eager to confront the angels again once healed.

However, before her injuries could fully heal, her father had already avenged the incident, leaving her somewhat resentful.

So, even when her mother later encountered foes a hundred or a thousand times stronger than that angel, she never found a battle as gratifying as the one at the sea floor.

What about herself?

When faced with such a mythical creature, all she thought about was running away!

Although, in hindsight, escaping with an injured Rafael was the wise choice, and getting away was already a stroke of luck amidst misfortune.

But Moli knew that at the time, her decision wasn’t the result of rational deliberation but an overwhelming fear from the soul that she couldn’t resist.

At that moment, all she could think about was fleeing, too scared to even glance at the enemy, running with her mind blank, remembering nothing except her panicked sprint.

Completely different from her mother...

Moli didn’t know how to comfort Rafael; she pressed her lips together and simply said,

"These beings are Demon Species; it’s unclear why they’ve escaped from the Demon Dynasty. But before, didn’t Fisher mention that he had..."
