Chapter 1212 - 1216: Knowing One’s Limits
Chairman Bo looked at his son’s dim expression and didn’t say anything further. He reached out to pat Bai Junhao’s shoulder lightly, either as a form of comfort or to remind Bai Junhao not to have any inappropriate thoughts about Beitang Yao’s woman.Of course, Bai Junhao understood his father’s meaning and chuckled, "Dad, don’t worry. I know my limits. I’ll be back at work tomorrow."
"There’s still some time before the end of your leave. Why not rest a bit more?" Chairman Bo looked at Bai Junhao, surprised, and said, "Besides, aren’t you working on a project with your cousin? You have a long holiday ahead."
"Dad, regarding Xia Qingqian, I need to handle this personally." Bai Junhao, being the mayor of City A, would never allow such lawlessness in his jurisdiction!
"Very well, do what you need to do, but consider carefully what can and cannot be done before taking action. Don’t leave any weaknesses for others to seize on, understand?" Chairman Bo advised earnestly.
"Dad, I’m the mayor. If I can’t even handle these matters well, how could I be fit for this position? Rest assured, I won’t embarrass the Bai Family." Bai Junhao nodded, actually hoping his father wouldn’t get involved in this issue.
Chairman Bo didn’t say anything further and left.
Bai Junhao watched his father, dressed in his military uniform, walking down the corridor with such a gallant demeanor. This filled Bai Junhao with genuine admiration for his father. He made a vow in his heart to become a good civil servant for the people, just like his father.
"Brother Junhao, does my brother really hate me that much?" Beitang Huan stood by, finally regaining her composure after seeing Chairman Bo leave. She looked up at Bai Junhao and asked softly.
"Huan, I’ll have the driver take you home. It’s okay here with just me and your brother." Bai Junhao thought it over and still felt it was better to send Beitang Huan away. Beitang Yao was angry right now and probably didn’t want to see Beitang Huan here.
However, Beitang Huan shook her head and, with a slight furrow of her brow, resolutely said, "No! I’m not leaving. I need to wait for Xia Qingqian to wake up and apologize... I truly know my mistake and want to apologize. Brother Junhao, would you let me stay and wait for her to wake up?"
"Huan, you should go back and get some sleep first. It’s fine with your brother here. If she wakes up, I’ll call you immediately. How does that sound?" Bai Junhao held Beitang Huan’s shoulders, saying seriously, "Besides, staying here won’t help, and we don’t know when she’ll wake up."
He thought Xia Qingqian must be exhausted and should be left to rest quietly for a day or two. Now was the worst time to disturb her peace.
Through a crack in the door, Beitang Huan saw Beitang Yao sitting by the bed, his eyes fixed on Xia Qingqian as if afraid to miss any of her expressions, or that she might wake up at any moment.
"Alright then, I’m going back now, but you must remember to inform me." Beitang Huan hesitated for a moment but didn’t persist further. Beitang Yao probably didn’t want her here either since she was responsible for Xia Qingqian’s current state.
"Okay." Bai Junhao nodded and then had the driver escort her back.
Bai Junhao turned around and quietly entered the ward, standing behind Beitang Yao. He gazed at Xia Qingqian, who was lying peacefully in bed, and inwardly sighed. He indeed admired Xia Qingqian’s tenacity and courage. Her belief in herself was enough to give her the strength to escape from the tunnel alone and make it to the end.
He shifted his gaze back to Beitang Yao and watched his sudden transformation. Bai Junhao found it hard to accept, as the usually cold and indifferent Beitang Yao rarely showed such an unexpected side.
