Chapter 455 - 370: Didn’t You Say We Don’t Have to Go Anymore?
A tall, strong male who had just managed to trade for a bamboo tube of salt turned to look in the direction Yuan Lang and Wu Yue had gone.
After a moment, he scratched his head in confusion. "Did I hear that wrong?"
While he was scrambling for salt just now, he thought he heard someone call out "Yue." He hadn’t heard that name in a very long time.
’That female was always sick,’ he thought. ’With no family in the Snow Tiger Tribe to look after her, she probably went to see the Beast God a long time ago.’
A clansman from his small tribe rushed over with a wide grin. "Clan Leader, did we manage to trade for salt?"
Clutching the bamboo tube, the tall, strong male replied excitedly, "Yes! I can’t believe it. The Snow Tiger Tribe actually accepted our fruit this time. We’re so lucky."
"I heard from that half beastman earlier that the Snow Tiger Tribe’s next witch is very fond of delicious fruits and food."
"That’s truly a blessing from the Beast God! I was worried we wouldn’t be able to bring any salt back this time."
The group headed toward their assigned lodging, talking and laughing. The man’s arms, holding the bamboo tube to his chest, were tense, as if he were cradling a priceless treasure.
Meanwhile, Wu Yue and Yuan Lang arrived at the clearing in front of the sacrificial altar. Several tables had been set up there, and the Beastman Warriors from the Great Tribes attending the trade meet were seated behind them.
The witches were seated at the front, but their expressions were grim.
When the Snow Tiger Witch saw Wu Yue and Yuan Lang approach, she beckoned for them to sit.
The beastman from the Scorpion Tribe and the Beastman Warriors from the Yan Yan Tribe, however, wore faint smiles.
"What do you witches think? The number of small and medium-sized tribes on the Red Flame Plain has grown. We need to go and inform each of them so that the Beastman Warriors from the Polar Forest tribes aren’t attacked when they go out to trade for salt."
"Some of the more powerful tribes even require a Crystal Core to be appeased. Surely those Crystal Cores can’t come from our own tribes, right?"
The Beastman Warrior from the Scorpion Tribe had an expression that said he was only thinking of their best interests.
The witch from the Yan Yan Tribe chimed in, "The Scorpion Tribe is right. We can do the legwork of notifying them, but the Crystal Cores for these medium-sized tribes cannot come from us."
"Therefore, the number of Crystal Cores must be increased."
Hearing this, Wu Yue sneered inwardly. ’Just a few medium-sized tribes? If they were really strong enough to threaten Great Tribes like yours, you would have wiped them out long ago. How could you let them get away with shitting all over you?’
"Witch, what’s going on? Weren’t we going to discuss the matter with the Scorpion Tribe’s beastmen? Why has it turned to the salt trade?"
"We don’t need to go out and trade for sa—MMPH MMPH!"
Before Wu Yue could finish, the Snow Tiger Witch’s expression changed dramatically. Yuan Lang, who was beside her, quickly clapped a hand over her mouth.
Wu Yue struggled, her scrawny little hands swatting at Yuan Lang’s arm.
The Snow Tiger Witch’s expression was grim. ’I told her so clearly before,’ she thought. ’The matter of the Salt Crystal Stone must be kept secret. Why would she blurt it out in front of so many people?’
’Doesn’t she realize the danger this could bring to the Snow Tiger Tribe?’
Wu Yue seized the chance to give Yuan Lang a look. Feigning a twinge of pain, he released his hand from her mouth.
"The Shuishan Tribe’s salt is much purer than the salt from the Sea Side Tribe! We can just trade with them from now on, why should we go to a place that’s so far away?"
"Besides, those tribes on the Red Flame Plain try to get more Crystal Cores out of us every year. It’s not worth it at all."
Wu Yue said indignantly.
Shuishan Tribe?
The Snow Tiger Witch’s aged eyes narrowed. She understood in an instant and suppressed the glint of understanding in her gaze.
Feeling three scorching gazes lock onto her, she gave a dry laugh and looked at her three old companions.
"Well, you see... I just hadn’t gotten around to telling you all," she said. "We only ran into the people from the Shuishan Tribe right before the rainy season. Heh heh!"
The Black Wolf Witch, the Flying Eagle Witch, and the Lion Witch had no time to give the Snow Tiger Witch any trouble.
Their eyes lit up as they looked at her. "You found a new place to trade for salt?"
The Snow Tiger Witch nodded with another dry laugh. "They come from the other side of the Polar Forest. Their salt is different from what we trade for at the Sea Side Tribe. It’s very clean and not the least bit bitter."
With that, she waved to a Half beastman Warrior behind her. "Go get some of the salt we traded from the Shuishan Tribe and show it to the witches."
