Chapter 54 The Simple and Honest Business Negotiation
Chapter 54 The Simple and Honest Business Negotiation
"What do you want from me?"
Lin Yugang had just said goodbye to his two teachers and was walking back to his dormitory when he received a call from Huo Qigang.
"What, can't I miss my dear brother and make a phone call to express my longing?" Huo Qigang's voice came from the phone, sounding to be in a good mood.
"Don't disgust me, get to the point." Lin Yu got goosebumps from Huo Qigang's opening remarks.
"Alright, alright." Huo Qigang chuckled, his tone turning serious. "The matter with Sugar Man is almost settled. When are your people going to take over the artists? But my men reported to me that a few artists want to go to Hong Kong Island with the company."
"So fast?" Lin Yu was still a little surprised. It had only been half a month since Zeng Zhiwei went in. "I thought President Cai could hold out for a few more days."
"Zeng Zhiwei has been making empty promises to her, but hasn't given her any real benefits." Huo Qigang's tone was somewhat sarcastic. "She's only managed to hold on by sheer willpower. Now that her powerful backer is gone, of course she can't hold on any longer."
"They're all experts at getting something for nothing," Lin Yu shook his head. "I'll find someone to ask later and get over there as soon as possible. By the way, who wants to go back to Hong Kong Island with Sugar Man?"
"Let me check the report..." came the sound of pages turning from Huo Qigang's end. "There's someone called Jin Fu who seems to be somewhat famous, and a few others whose names I haven't heard of before. Don't worry, none of the top artists are planning to leave."
Upon hearing Jin Fu's name, Lin Yu paused for a moment, then laughed. He had almost forgotten that sugar figurines existed.
If Jinfu really goes to the Hong Kong entertainment circle, what kind of sparks will he create with those "unyielding and proud" artists? That's something to look forward to.
"It's alright, there are only a few people who want to sign." Lin Yu didn't dwell on the issue. "Judging from your tone, are you planning to completely merge the company with the Hong Kong branch?"
If we do it this way, it will deviate from the original plan. The purpose of leaving the production company to Kenneth Fok was to allow him to establish a direct connection between the Hong Kong entertainment circle and the mainland. If he is brought back to Hong Kong Island, this move will be in vain.
"How could that be?" Kenneth Fok explained on the other end of the phone. "The production center will definitely remain in mainland China, and we will continue to increase investment. Shanghai Sugar Man is our outpost in mainland China, and we can't lose this position."
"Understood." Lin Yu thought for a moment, "I will arrange for someone to go to Shanghai to discuss the contract as soon as possible."
After hanging up the phone, Lin Yu mentally reviewed the people he could contact in the celebrity management field. After much thought, the only reliable one seemed to be Wang Jinghua.
He pulled out the number and dialed it immediately. The call was answered almost instantly.
"Mr. Lin, what can I do for you?" Wang Jinghua's voice was extremely polite, even somewhat respectful.
Lin Yu didn't stand on ceremony and went straight to the question he was concerned about: "Sister Hua, what's the approximate valuation of your Shishiba Culture company? Who holds the shares?"
"I currently hold all the shares, and the company has been renamed Xinghe Culture." Wang Jinghua was taken aback by the sudden question, but quickly recovered. "According to market valuation, it's worth around 30 million. If Mr. Lin is interested in investing, we can discuss it further."
This price was actually quoted too low. According to industry practice, a company's valuation is generally around twice its revenue or ten times its profit. But for Wang Jinghua, the addition of Lin Yu's name was more valuable than the cash it brought.
It's good to have a big tree to lean on for shade.
Lin Yu did some mental calculations. The ten million his second brother had given him was just enough.
Although his second brother meant for him to use the money to make a movie, he had no intention of paying it back anyway, so it was no different from his own money.
"I understand. Reserve 30% of the shares first, and I'll have someone sign a contract with you." Lin Yu paused. "Also, go to Shanghai now. Most of the artists under Sugarman are about to terminate their contracts. Whether you set them up as a studio affiliated with them or sign them directly, you can negotiate the terms."
There was a two-second silence on the other end of the phone.
Although rumors had been circulating for some time that Sugarman was on its last legs, this news still left Wang Jinghua somewhat incredulous. The termination of contracts by most of its artists meant that Sugarman's management business was practically at a standstill, which was tantamount to cutting off its own arm.
However, the fact that this news came from Lin Yu's mouth meant that Tang Ren and Lin Yu had reached a reconciliation.
They haven't even invested yet, and the pie is already being offered to them. If Lin Yu really becomes a shareholder, who knows how well the company will thrive.
"Okay, Mr. Lin." Wang Jinghua didn't hesitate for long. "I'll book a flight right away."
"Okay, I trust you to handle things." Lin Yu said and then hung up the phone.
Such a simple and unpretentious business negotiation; a deal worth tens of millions was settled with just a few words.
For some reason, after saying those words, Lin Yu felt a chill run down his spine, as if someone was about to betray him.
After thinking for a moment, he called his older brother again and asked him to find a trustworthy person to register a company to hold shares on his behalf and handle some investment-related matters.
He didn't want to directly hold company shares, not because he was worried about taking responsibility, but more to avoid some unnecessary trouble.
-----------------
When Lin Yu returned to the dormitory, his three roommates were playing games shirtless, and the whole dormitory was filled with the clattering sound of keyboards.
Hearing the door open, the three of them turned to look at the doorway, glanced at Lin Yu who had returned empty-handed, and then turned back to stare at the screen.
Lin Yu's lips twitched. He wasn't like this when they were filming the movie. They treated him like they were seeing their own father.
"Brother Yu, wait a moment, we'll be done soon." Wang Yanyang kept his eyes glued to the computer, taking a moment to greet Lin Yu without affecting his work.
Well, I haven't been back for a month, and my seniority has already gone from "father" to "brother". If I don't see him for a whole summer, I don't know which seniority I'll drop to.
Don't leave during summer vacation, all of you stay and work!
Lin Yu casually placed the things he had brought on the table, glanced at his seat, and found that the table was actually quite clean, and the bed was covered with a cloth, so there was not much dust.
They are all my good younger brothers; it's no wonder I always think of them when good things happen.
The game ended quickly. These days, most people in universities play Dota.
When he first arrived, Li Chao, who was usually reserved, wanted to play League of Legends with everyone. However, he eventually couldn't resist the two older brothers and switched to Dota.
"Hey Yu, wanna play a game?" Wang Yanyang took off his headphones and turned to call out to Lin Yu.
"I'm done playing." Lin Yu lit a cigarette and casually tossed the remaining half-packet to Wang Yanyang. "I've come up with a new script."
Upon hearing this, all three of them brightened up and stared at Lin Yu.
Lin Yu took a leisurely drag on his cigarette and asked unhurriedly, "I reckon filming will start during the summer vacation. Are you guys free then?"
On this day, Lin Yu entered the Father Realm once again!
