Chapter 29 You are the first link in our play
The next morning.
Xu An went downstairs to have breakfast, but unexpectedly ran into Zhong Chuxi again.
At this moment, Zhong Chuxi was in a panic and didn't even have time to dry her hair.
"Why didn't you wake me up? If I'm late today, the director will yell at me to death!"
"Why didn't you tell me yesterday? I thought you were going to get some beauty sleep."
"Sleep my ass! What right do I, a newcomer, have to take my beauty sleep? Making a good impression on the director is the only thing that matters."
Xu An nodded in agreement with this statement.
Essentially, he and Zhong Chuxi are the same type of person; they are both cunning and calculating.
If he hadn't been cunning, he wouldn't have gotten the role of the second male lead in "Youth".
After all, it was much harder for him to get the second male lead role than for Zhong Chuxi to get the second female lead role.
"Boss, two bowls of tofu pudding and four fried dough sticks, please," Xu An said to the boss.
Before long, the owner brought out tofu pudding and fried dough sticks for the two of them.
Zhong Chuxi frowned after taking just one bite.
"Why is this tofu pudding salty?"
Xu An said while eating, "Of course it's salty. If tofu pudding isn't salty, why would it be sweet?"
"How could it be salty? Tofu pudding is of course sweet!"
The debate over whether tofu pudding should be sweet or savory espresso lasted from the breakfast shop all the way to the film set.
"What are you two arguing about? And why did you come together?" Yang Caiyu asked curiously as she approached.
"It's nothing. By the way, why are you the only one here? Where did everyone else go?" Zhong Chuxi skillfully changed the subject.
"I don't know either, it seems like I was called away by Director Feng."
Yang Caiyu didn't react emotionally to this. She had powerful backers, and if this movie didn't work out, she could switch to another production team. There was bound to be one that suited her.
Actually, Feng Kuzi didn't mean to exclude her. It was just that she disagreed with Feng Kuzi's arrangements. Since she disagreed, Feng Kuzi naturally didn't bother with her.
This resulted in her, like Miaomiao, becoming an outsider on the set.
The difference is that Feng Kuzi deliberately made herself ostracized, while Yang Caiyu brought it upon herself.
Although the person is quite good-looking, their emotional intelligence is too low, or rather, nonexistent.
After all, Jin Fei's judgment... has always been extremely poor!
To be fair, Feng Xiaogang's directing ability is fully demonstrated in this film.
Before, he wouldn't mind if you called him "Feng Kuzi" (Feng the Pants), but anyone who has seen "Youth" would feel it's a bit much not to call him "Director Feng."
Aside from the opening scene with some issues regarding camera movement of the actresses, this film is flawless.
Moreover, the problem wasn't Feng Xiaogang; apart from Zhong Chuxi, the other actresses' performances were initially stiff, which was due to insufficient acting skills.
Viewers will find that the beginning of the film seems to be driven by the desire to advance the pace, and the actresses will feel like mere props.
This situation improves significantly later on, as the actors' skills improve and the characters' unique brilliance begins to shine through.
Especially the scene later in the movie where Li Xiaofeng utters a vulgar curse, which is a rare sight for a female actress to curse in the film, and the line was surprisingly not cut.
WCNM, you're beating up a disabled veteran, a war hero!
"Our Chen Can and Sui Zi are here! Come over here, I'm giving them some acting instructions."
Feng Kuzi didn't mention the names of the characters, but rather the names of the roles, emphasizing the immersive experience to help the actors get into character more easily.
People are multifaceted. Feng Xiaogang is a lecherous old man, but he also definitely has the talent of a director.
Just like another outstanding director, Chen Sicheng, although his character is not so great, his talent is absolutely top-notch.
When Xu An was on set, he would absolutely follow Feng Xiaogang's instructions, but that was another story off-screen.
"You guys will have scenes to film later, so let me explain the plot to you first."
Feng Kuzi called Xu An, Zhong Chuxi, and Li Xiaofeng to his side.
He explained things in great detail, including what kind of expression to make at what time. But this was just to help the actors remember the details; they would still need to make adjustments when filming started.
A director's ability to direct is predicated on the fact that he himself must be a good actor.
When filming began, Feng Xiaogang showcased his acting skills.
"You need to splash this water casually. You were too deliberate just now. Let me demonstrate for you."
After saying that, Feng Kuzi squeezed past Li Xiaofeng and came to Xu An's side. When the basin in his hand was being washed by the water, his hand slipped, and water droplets splashed all over Xu An.
"Do it this way."
Just as Feng Kuzi left, Xu An quickly picked up a ball of light.
[Body control +3]
As expected of a great director, the attribute values he generated are truly impressive.
After absorbing the attribute values, Xu An gained stronger control over his body.
Li Xiaofeng understood this, and indeed became much more natural after filming began.
After being splashed with water, Xu An quickly took two steps back and patted the water droplets off his clothes.
"Hey, is this how you wash dishes?"
The look of disgust didn't seem like an act.
Li Xiaofeng quickly took on roles, her facial expressions changing rapidly, even her eyes becoming melancholic.
"What's wrong with you? It was just a little water splashed on you."
As she said this, her expression changed again, this time showing a hint of arrogance typical of children of high-ranking officials.
"He keeps babbling on and on; he's not like a man at all!"
Xu An smiled contemptuously, revealing the cynical air of a high-ranking official's son.
"Isn't it just because your dad's in the military?"
Zhong Chuxi quickly entered the frame, holding a towel and wiping Xu An's body repeatedly.
"Alright, that's enough. She didn't do it on purpose."
When she appeared, Li Xiaofeng's gaze changed again, becoming more scrutinizing, but more so showing pride in his own advantages.
She didn't take Zhong Chuxi seriously, treating him merely as a mediator.
Similarly, Xu An didn't take Zhong Chuxi seriously either, and treated her as a mediator.
The performance of the group brought a smile to the face of Feng Kuzi, who was sitting in front of the monitor.
Not bad, very good.
That's exactly the feeling he wanted!
People watching this film for the first time might think that Chen Can initially liked Xiao Suizi, but he never liked Xiao Suizi; the person he liked was always Hao Shuwen.
From beginning to end, Xiao Suizi was merely a part of the game between Chen Can and Hao Shuwen.
Xu An, with an arrogant expression, straightened his clothes as he spoke: "I just can't stand the bad habits of those children of officials."
"Okay, card!"
As the director's voice rang out, Li Xiaofeng breathed a sigh of relief.
It's so difficult; it's really hard to keep up a serious acting style all the time.
Xu An, on the other hand, showed no unusual reaction; this level of acting skill was far from his limit.
However, this scene was still very rewarding for him, as Li Xiaofeng unleashed an attribute ball.
[Micro-expression control +1]
It's been a long time since we've seen micro-expression attributes revealed, I never expected to see them on her.
No doubt about it, I'll buy her a Coke later.
