Chapter 13 The Homeroom Teacher's Shock
Chapter 13 The Homeroom Teacher's Shock
"Ms. Li, have you graded the test papers from yesterday's in-class quiz?"
After finishing two classes and returning to her office, Chen Li stopped by biology teacher Li Guotao's desk, remembering yesterday's exam, and greeted him.
"Just finished grading them." Li Guotao put down his teacup and, seeing that Chen Li was concerned about the exam, pulled out a stack of papers.
He also happened to have some questions he wanted to ask her.
"How did Shu Panpan do? What score did she get?" Chen Li first asked, showing concern for the top student in biology.
"Very good, 95, very consistent performance." He remembered the outstanding score very clearly; Li Guotao could recall it without even looking at the test paper.
"Hmm, there should still be room for improvement." Although a score of 95 out of 100 is good, Chen Li has higher expectations for Shu Panpan.
After a pause, she asked her second question: "What about Lu Jie's grades? Is there a big gap between him and Shu Panpan?"
Li Guotao was somewhat surprised, not expecting her to care about Lu Jie's grades.
But thinking about Lu Jie's results this time, he vaguely guessed the reason.
"1 point difference."
Because Lu Jie's grades left a deep impression on him, he remembered the scores even without looking at the test paper.
"94 points? That's so high?" Chen Li exclaimed in surprise.
After finishing her invigilation duties yesterday, she returned to her office and retrieved the monthly exam results.
Lu Jie scored 78 in the monthly biology exam, and Shu Panpan scored 95 in the monthly exam.
There is still a gap, a full 17 points.
For a test graded on a 100-point scale, that's quite a lot.
Although during the proctoring process, she noticed that Lu Jie's answers to several non-multiple-choice questions were consistent with Shu Panpan's, and guessed that Lu Jie's grades might improve, she did not expect such a significant improvement.
Before she could recover, she heard Li Guotao slowly say again, "It's 96."
"Lu Jie scored one point higher than Shu Panpan, ranking first in the class."
Chen Li was truly stunned this time.
He's actually taller than Shu Panpan?
First in the class?!
From a score of 78 in the monthly exam to 96 in this in-class quiz, it's safe to say that Lu Jie has made significant progress.
However, directly comparing scores with monthly exams is not very appropriate.
Perhaps because the test was relatively easy, the scores were generally high.
But if you add the fact that he's first in the class, then the situation changes again.
Regardless of the score, it represents excellent results and a significant improvement.
Most importantly, it's only been a month since the monthly exam.
Suddenly, the words Lu Jie had said to her that day flashed into her mind.
I ranked in the top 20 in the midterm exam.
Although she still felt it was unlikely, the doubts she had once held in her heart had begun to surface.
On the other side, Li Guotao secretly shook his head as he watched Chen Li's expression change.
Look how angry Teacher Chen is.
He knew Lu Jie well; his classroom discipline was acceptable, but he didn't pay attention in class.
He often sleeps or reads novels in class.
He tried it several times, but it had no effect.
My score on the last monthly exam was also mediocre, only 78 points.
If this continues, there's a high probability that they'll end up in the lower-ranked class and eventually fall to the bottom.
Despite his poor grades, he felt that Lu Jie was a good person in terms of character.
He doesn't disturb his classmates during class, and I've never heard of Lu Jie going out to cause trouble or get into fights.
But this time he was somewhat disappointed. It was just a regular pop quiz, meant to give everyone a chance to fill in the gaps in their knowledge, and yet they cheated.
Cheating is one thing, but to so blatantly cheat to get a score of 96 is quite another.
They really don't take teachers seriously at all.
Even if Teacher Chen doesn't contact him, he is prepared to go to Teacher Chen to find out the situation and talk about it again.
At this moment, in Li Guotao's eyes, Lu Jie's achievements were ill-gotten.
He had doubts when he finished grading the papers and saw that Lu Jie had scored 96.
After seeing how much attention Chen Li paid to Lu Jie, her doubts turned into confirmation.
Cheating!
However, to Li Guotao's surprise, Chen Li, after regaining her senses, immediately exclaimed:
"I never expected Lu Jie to have made such great progress!"
Li Guotao, who had just taken a sip of tea, was so shocked that he almost choked.
What do you mean? Is there a hidden meaning in your words?
After swallowing the tea, he thought for a moment and then continued the conversation:
"Lu Jie has indeed made great progress."
"However, this progress is indeed a bit too much."
"Moreover, Sun Bo, who was sitting in front of him, also made progress this time."
As he spoke, he pulled out Sun Bo's and Lu Jie's test papers: "Hmm... Sun Bo got 88 points."
"I remember he scored around 70 on the monthly biology exam, and his improvement was no less than Lu Jie's."
He thought Chen Li was subtly mocking Lu Jie and Sun Bo for having serious problems with their grades, so he went along with it and brought up the issues as well.
He even spoke very tactfully in order not to provoke Chen Li.
However, Chen Li's thinking was completely on a different wavelength from his.
At this moment, she felt only relief:
"Sun Bo has made such great progress?"
"Not bad, not bad."
"It seems that Lu Jie and Sun Bo really studied when they went to evening self-study."
Even though his thinking differed from Chen Li's, Li Guotao realized something was wrong at this moment.
He hesitated for a moment before saying, "Teacher Chen, you mean... Lu Jie and Sun Bo's grades are fine?"
Chen Li was taken aback; she didn't know why Li Guotao would say such a thing.
But soon, recalling what had been said earlier, she understood:
"Lu Jie and Sun Bo have been studying quite diligently lately, so I paid special attention to them while I was proctoring the exam yesterday."
"They were very focused on the exam and didn't fidget."
Now it was Li Guotao's turn to be surprised.
It's somewhat unbelievable that such great progress could be made in such a short time.
But with Chen Li's endorsement, he had no doubt about their achievements.
"That's really great!"
......
The school bell rang.
"Lu Jie, do you think the biology teacher will bring back yesterday's test papers to announce the results this class?"
Taking advantage of the teacher's absence, Sun Bo turned to talk to Lu Jie behind him:
"I wonder how many points I got on yesterday's biology test. What if I didn't do well?"
"Well, I don't think so. I think I did alright on the test..."
Seeing his conflicted and nervous expression, Lu Jie found it somewhat amusing. He wanted to tease him, but then thought better of it and offered words of comfort:
"You've reviewed so much biology, I think you must have done well on the exam."
Thinking that he had indeed reviewed the biology knowledge points well and that he could answer most of the questions in the exam, Sun Bo's tension subsided somewhat.
Then he became a little excited:
"I really want to know how many points I got on the test!"
"How about you? How do you think you did on the exam?"
Lu Jie was about to speak when he saw the biology teacher about to enter the classroom. He gave Sun Bo a look, and Sun Bo immediately turned around and sat up straight.
Li Guotao, expressionless, placed the exam paper on the podium, glanced at it, and said in a deep voice:
"Yesterday's quiz results were not good. Although the test was more difficult than the monthly exam, the overall score was much lower."
"In particular, the number of students who failed was almost ten more than in the monthly exam!"
"What have you ten people been doing all this time?!"
"Are you all playing?!"
As Li Guotao spoke in a serious and cold tone, the class fell silent.
The atmosphere even became somewhat chilly.
