Chapter 4 Selling Fish
Chapter 4 Selling Fish
After resting for a while, the two went fishing again. After waiting for a long time without any luck, Xiao Peng suggested packing up and going home.
Their original plan was to fish until Sunday, camp here for a day, and then catch an early catch the next day before heading back.
But too many things happened today. First, Xiao Kai slipped and fell into the water and almost died. Then there was a crazy series of falls, which left both of them exhausted.
We could have rested for the night and left the next morning, but considering that so many fish would die if left until the next day, we decided to head back home.
They had considered releasing the fish, but the catch over the past few hours was almost entirely large crucian carp, with very few exceptions; none weighed less than half a pound.
The release of fish almost always involves keeping the big ones and releasing the small ones; if all of them were released, we would be struck by lightning.
After thinking for a while, the two decided to pick out the smaller ones and release them, while taking all the remaining larger ones back to sell.
As for where to sell it, Xiao Kai doesn't need to worry about that.
Xiao Peng has fresh produce stalls in both of his supermarkets, so he has no worries about food.
"Clap clap clap~"
As the fish baskets of the two men emerged from the water, a loud splashing sound rang out.
"Wow~ I didn't even realize I'd caught so many!"
Looking at the catch in their two fish baskets, the two men exchanged a glance and both took a deep breath. This was truly a haul of fish!
Xiao Peng's fish basket alone was almost full of the bottom three sections, weighing at least fifty pounds.
Xiao Kai's was even more, estimated to be at least seventy or eighty pounds.
Even if only a small portion is released, the two of them together weigh at least 100 kilograms.
"How are we going to take all these fish home?"
Looking at the densely packed fish in the fish basket, Xiao Kai gave a wry smile and asked.
Upon hearing this, Xiao Peng confidently patted his chest and said, "Don't worry, there are two 70-liter water tanks in the trailer. We'll take the equipment back first, then bring the tanks back to lift it. We can do it in a couple more times!"
They spoke with great confidence, little did they know that this decision would cause them immense trouble.
Xiao Kai's eyes lit up, and he immediately nodded in agreement.
He recognized those two large tanks; they were the ones Xiao Peng used specifically to transport seafood to his supermarket. They were equipped with oxygenation devices and could easily hold a hundred or so kilograms of fish. The problem was that with so many fish, the two of them didn't know how many times they would have to lift them all.
After all, it's not just fish, there's water too!
Soon, the two finished packing their camping and fishing gear, put the fish basket back into the water, and then began their return journey with their equipment.
Fortunately, the place where they parked was not far away, less than 500 meters.
A short while later, they returned to where they had parked.
This is an intersection, next to a county road leading to the city. The surrounding area is deserted and there are hardly any people.
At this moment, Xiao Peng's car, a joint venture diesel pickup truck, was parked quietly there.
Unlike normal pickup trucks, Xiao Peng's pickup truck is equipped with a sealed rear cargo box, which is not open and is specifically used to carry fishing gear.
Reaching the vehicle, Xiao Peng yanked open the rear door of the pickup truck, revealing two enormous water tanks. Next to them lay a pile of Xiao Peng's fishing gear, including all sorts of surf rods and lures.
Next, they put all their equipment away and then picked up two large water tanks and started heading back.
A short while later, they returned to the fishing spot.
After sorting through the fish, they released some of the smaller ones back into the water, and packed the rest into batches to carry back.
It only took a few minutes to get there, but it took almost half an hour to carry it back.
It was so heavy that they would have preferred to just let it go if they weren't so reluctant to part with it.
It took the two of them nearly an hour and a half to transport the catch of over 100 kilograms of fish in three trips.
By the time everything was finished, it was almost dark.
Peng~
After the last batch of fish was loaded onto the truck, Xiao Peng slammed the trunk door shut, and the two of them finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Wow, this is the first time I've ever carried so many fish, I'm exhausted!"
Looking at their bright red hands, the two glanced at each other, their disheveled appearance prompting them to burst into laughter.
"Let's go, let's go home!"
hum!
As the diesel engine started, the pickup truck carrying 100 kilograms of fish slowly drove away, heading towards the city.
......
In the car.
"That year, I had my hands in my pockets and didn't know what an opponent was. The following year, I was beaten so badly that I didn't know how to fight back!..."
Xiao Kai, who was resting with his eyes closed, was awakened by a series of urgent cell phone rings.
"Hey, Mom, what's wrong!"
"Hey, I'm out fishing!"
"What? Mom, you're here again? How many times has this happened? Don't worry about my affairs. I'm only 26, why would I get married!"
"Other people's homes are other people's homes, and I am me!"
"Okay, okay, I got it. I'll come over for dinner tomorrow and we'll talk about it then!"
"Okay, I'm hanging up!"
Seeing that Xiao Kai had hung up the phone, Xiao Peng, who was driving, said with a smile, "Your fourth aunt has arranged another blind date for you!"
"Exactly!" Xiao Kai said helplessly. "I just don't understand what my mom is thinking all the time. I'm only 26, what's the rush? Why does she have to compare me to everyone else!"
"Your fourth uncle and aunt also want you to settle down soon. Look at me, I got married in my twenties. Although my child came a little late, at least my parents are at ease!" Xiao Peng said.
"And you should try to understand them, after all, it wasn't easy for them back then!"
"I know, but it's not suitable, you and your sister-in-law had a free-choice relationship, it's different," Xiao Kai continued.
"I know my parents were a bit anxious to have me, and I understand that, but I don't want to settle!"
Xiao Peng shook his head: "Fine, fine, you're handsome, so you're right. Just don't regret it later!"
"I will never regret it!"
......
After a bumpy ride of more than an hour, the pickup truck finally arrived in Pingshun City, located in central Qianzhou.
After entering the city, the pickup truck quickly arrived at the entrance of a supermarket called Pengfei, following the flow of traffic.
This is one of the supermarkets owned by Xiao Peng.
Bang!
As soon as Xiao Kai got out of the car, he saw two staff members running out of the supermarket.
Seeing this, Xiao Peng hurriedly told them to carry the fish from the car inside.
Seeing that he couldn't get involved, Xiao Kai simply took off his fishing gear and said to Xiao Peng, "Brother Peng, I'll head back now!"
"etc!"
Seeing Xiao Kai about to leave, Xiao Peng stopped him, saying, "Let's go get a drink together later!"
"Keep drinking, Peng-ge, aren't you afraid your wife will beat you up!" Xiao Kai grinned mischievously.
"Go away, I'm afraid of her!" Xiao Peng said.
His words clearly lacked conviction, but Xiao Kai didn't call him out on it. He immediately added, "Forget it, don't bother. So much has happened today, I'm too tired. I'll just go back and order takeout and get some rest!"
Upon hearing this, Xiao Peng finally realized what was going on and said, "That's right, you should go back and rest early."
As he was talking, he remembered something and took out his phone from his pocket. Soon, Xiao Kai's phone beeped with a transfer notification.
He took out his phone and saw that Xiao Peng had transferred 2000 yuan to him.
"Brother Peng, this won't do!" Xiao Kai's expression changed as he said.
"What do you mean 'can't'? If I hadn't been fishing in your spot today, would I have caught so many fish?" Xiao Peng waved his hand dismissively.
"But without you, I wouldn't have been able to catch so many myself, not to mention you saved me!" Xiao Kai said again.
"Alright, enough nonsense. What's the point of all this, bro? I'm willing to save you, fishing is fishing, and I'm not losing out. Wild crucian carp aren't cheap; even if you get eighty pounds, I'll still make a profit!"
Hearing Xiao Peng's words and seeing his increasingly grim expression, Xiao Kai knew that Xiao Peng must have earned much less, but he still couldn't say anything more. He would find a way to compensate him later; give and take was the way to get along.
However, as Xiao Peng said, they are good brothers, and there is no need to be too particular about dividing this small amount of money.
Moreover, Xiao Peng did not actually owe anything; he just earned less.
Although he didn't know the price of wild crucian carp, he did know the price of farmed crucian carp.
In their local area, farmed crucian carp costs around thirteen yuan.
Wild crucian carp, even the worst ones, are definitely worth more than twenty.
The two of them caught at least 120 to 130 jin of fish, with Xiao Kai taking the lion's share, probably around 70 to 80 jin. The value of the catch was close to 2,000 yuan, so they decided not to say anything more.
After receiving the money and parting ways with Xiao Peng, Xiao Kai carried his fishing gear and walked towards Xinghuo Residential Area behind the supermarket.
That's right, his family lives right behind Xiao Peng's supermarket.
Not only him, but Xiao Peng also lives here.
A few years ago, their rural home in the suburbs was requisitioned.
His family ultimately received three houses in the Xinghuo residential complex as compensation, based on the number of people living there.
One of the apartments was renovated by his parents to serve as his wedding home, and that's the one he lives in now.
The remaining apartment was given to his sister, and the other apartment was for his parents to live in, just in a different building.
Xiao Peng's family, on the other hand, received an additional shop as compensation because their house was large; that is now Pengfei Supermarket.
