Chapter 329 Happy Married Life
Chapter 329 Happy Married Life
January 15, 1998, 6:30 a.m.
When Ling Yun opened his eyes, it was just getting light outside the window. He lay there for a few seconds, listening to the even breathing beside him.
An Shiyu was still asleep, lying on her side with her face buried in the blanket, only half of it showing. Her hair was spread out on the pillow, with a few strands falling onto her face. Her breathing was light and even, her chest rising and falling slightly.
Ling Yun gently lifted the covers, got out of bed, put on her slippers, and tiptoed out of the bedroom.
The kitchen was a bit dark, so he turned on the light and took out eggs, milk, and the bread he'd bought yesterday from the refrigerator. He placed the frying pan on the stove, turned on the heat, and poured in the oil. Once the oil was hot, he cracked the eggs into it; the egg whites slowly turned white in the hot oil, with golden-brown bubbles forming around the edges.
While frying the eggs, he sliced a few tomatoes and arranged them on a plate. He put the bread slices into the toaster, pressed the switch, and a slight humming sound came from the machine.
At this moment, An Shiyu came out of the bedroom, wearing his T-shirt, revealing her fair and rounded thighs. She rubbed her eyes as she walked to the kitchen doorway and leaned against the door frame.
"Honey, you're up so early to cook?" Her voice was still a little languid.
"Yes, I'm worried about you and your child going hungry."
An Shiyu walked over, hugged his waist from behind, and pressed her face against his back.
"I do it every day, and I don't find it tiring."
Lingyun flipped the fried egg, "I made breakfast for you, how can you feel tired?"
She hugged him for a while, then let go and went to wash up.
The fried eggs were ready, and the bread seemed to jump up in excitement. Lingyun brought breakfast to the table: two plates, each with a fried egg, two slices of toast, a few slices of tomato, and two glasses of milk.
An Shiyu came out of the bathroom and sat down at the dining table. She picked up a fork and poked at the fried egg.
"Fried eggs again," she said.
"Don't you like it?"
"I love it." She took a bite. "I love everything you make."
Lingyun sat down opposite her and began to eat as well.
Sunlight slowly streamed in, falling on the dining table and on the faces of the two people. An Shiyu ate very slowly, taking small bites, occasionally glancing up at Ling Yun.
"Are you going to the company today?" she asked.
"Um."
"What time will you be back?"
"Leave work at a normal time."
She smiled. "Leaving get off work at a normal time. You leave work at a normal time every day now."
She finished her last bite, stood up, and took the plate away. Lingyun wanted to help, but she wouldn't let him.
"You sit down," she said. "I'll tidy up."
She stood by the sink washing dishes, the tap running. Ling Yun sat at the dining table, watching her back.
Her belly wasn't showing yet, but she would subconsciously protect it with her hand when walking.
Lingyun left home at 7:30.
Downstairs, Zhao Hu had already parked his car at the entrance. He stood beside the car, saw Ling Yun come out, and opened the car door.
"Good morning, Mr. Ling."
"morning."
The car drove out of the residential area and merged into the morning rush hour traffic. Lingyun leaned back in his seat, looking out the window. The shops on both sides of the street were open, and there were queues in front of the breakfast stalls, the aroma of fried dough sticks wafting in.
"Is your wife alright?" Zhao Hu glanced at him in the rearview mirror.
"Good."
"Is your morning sickness severe?"
I occasionally vomit in the morning.
Zhao Hu nodded. "My wife was vomiting for three months straight. She vomited everything she ate."
Lingyun nodded. "Pregnancy is really exhausting."
The car arrived at the company building at exactly eight o'clock.
The office building is a twelve-story structure located in Jinan High-tech Zone, and it was just completed last year. The four large red characters "Xinghuo Group" are prominently displayed on the roof.
Ling Yun walked into the lobby, and the receptionist stood up.
"Good morning, Mr. Ling."
He nodded and walked toward the elevator.
There were people in the elevator, a few young employees. When they saw him come in, they all made way for him. Someone whispered, "Good morning, Mr. Ling," and he nodded.
His office was at the very back of the twelfth floor.
The corridor was carpeted in a thick, dark gray color, making no sound when stepped on. As he passed the conference room, he saw that it was already occupied, with people arranging documents inside.
He pushed open the office door and entered.
The office is small, with a desk, a few chairs, and a bookshelf. Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows is the cityscape of Jinan, with distant mountains vaguely visible.
He sat down and turned on his computer.
He read through the pile of emails in his inbox one by one. Carly sent him a report on the progress of the European data center; David sent him a report on the localization plan for the Middle East; Ma Baoguo sent him a report on the production capacity of the electronics factory; and Ni Guangnan sent him a report on the progress of chip research and development.
He replied to a few emails, marked a few, and then closed his email account.
There was a document on the table, which Chen Lingling had brought yesterday. The cover read "Spark Group Integration Plan (Final Draft)".
He opened it and read it page by page.
The first page is the organizational chart. At the top is "Spark Group", which is divided into six sections: Spark Electronics Factory (Jinan Plant 1 and Shenzhen Plant 2), Spark Internet Cafe, Spark Technology, Spark Joint Laboratory, and Qilu Microelectronics. Each section is further subdivided.
The second page details the personnel arrangements. Ma Baoguo was appointed Group Vice President and General Manager of the Electronics Factory; Zhao Weiguo was appointed Group Vice President and General Manager of the Internet Cafe Business Unit; Wang Jianguo was appointed Group Vice President and General Manager of Xinghuo Technology; Ni Guangnan was appointed Group Vice President and Chief Scientist; and Li Mo was appointed Group Vice President and General Manager of the R&D Center. Additionally, a new Executive Vice President, Chen Zhongming, formerly Vice President of IBM China, was hired to oversee daily operations.
The third page contains Chen Lingling's appointment. She was transferred to the position of Assistant General Manager of the Group, reporting directly to Ling Yun.
He finished reading and closed the document.
Just then, there was a knock on the office door.
"Come in," Ling Yun said in a deep voice.
Chen Lingling pushed open the door and came in. She was wearing a dark business suit, her hair was tied up, and she looked much more capable than before. She was holding a folder in her hand.
"President Ling," she walked over and placed the folder on the table, "this is President Chen Zhongming's information. He arrived this afternoon and we arranged to meet at three o'clock."
Ling Yun flipped through the photo and quickly glanced at it. The photo showed a man in his forties, with neatly combed hair, wearing glasses, and a serious expression. He had a long resume: a graduate of Tsinghua University, an MBA in the United States, and fifteen years at IBM, rising from engineer to vice president.
"Okay." He closed the folder.
Chen Lingling stood there, not moving.
"Is there anything else?" Ling Yun asked.
"President Ling," she said, "is there anything in that integration plan that needs to be changed?"
"I just finished reading it, and there's nothing to change. Just send it out as is."
Chen Lingling nodded. "Okay, Ms. Ling, shall we announce it at the meeting tomorrow?"
"Okay. Notify everyone, tomorrow morning at nine o'clock."
"OK."
She turned to leave, but Ling Yun called out to her, "How is Wei Guo doing lately?"
Chen Lingling paused for a moment, then smiled.
"He's doing well," she said. "He's just been quite busy lately, always out and about, choosing locations for new stores and negotiating with franchisees. He only came back last week."
"How are your wedding preparations going?"
Chen Lingling blushed slightly. "It's...it's not decided yet," she said. "He said he'd wait until he's done with this busy period."
Ling Yun nodded. "Okay, once you've set the time, let me know in advance. Go ahead and get busy."
Chen Lingling agreed and left the office.
