Chapter 76 Xuexue twists her ankle
Chapter 76 Xuexue twists her ankle
The green plums rolled around in her palm, colliding with each other and making a soft rubbing sound. After rubbing a handful, she placed them in the bamboo sieve beside her.
Scoop out another handful, then knead it again.
The water in the basin gradually became murky, and the white frost on the plum skin was completely washed away, revealing the lush green color underneath, like leaves that had just been rained on.
Lin Ran's camera kept following her in close-up.
Su Peixue spread the bamboo sieve out in the sun. The green plums covered the sieve in a thick layer, and the water droplets on the surface formed small beads that sparkled when the sun shone on them.
The girl stretched out a finger and poked around in the middle of the plums; they rolled over, turning to face the sun again. The summer cicadas' chirping echoed from the depths of the woods, in waves.
"This set is enough."
Lin Ran watched the replay again.
"Harvest the plums and brew wine at the doorway."
Some houses in the countryside were uninhabited, so Lin Ran and Su Peixue didn't need to go inside. They arrived at the door of one of the houses and started filming.
We still need to shoot a lot of videos, so we need to rent a farmhouse, but for now we can only make do and shoot the first video first.
Lin Ran unloaded the props one by one from the trunk.
Earthenware jar, yellow rock sugar, white wine, red rope, writing brush, ink, red paper.
The earthenware jar was new, unglazed, and rough to the touch. The mouth of the jar was sealed with a layer of oiled paper, which made a crisp sound when it was peeled off.
The rock sugar was packed in a cloth bag, and the liquor was a case of everyday drinking liquor that I bought.
Lin Ran set up the camera position.
"First, spread rock sugar."
Su Peixue rolled up the opening of the cloth bag and poured it into the jar.
The yellow rock sugar was poured in with a splash, the sugar cubes clattering against the ceramic wall with a tinkling sound.
She poured out about half a bag, stopped, and reached into the jar to level the rock sugar piled in the middle. The rock sugar chunks were cool and slippery, sliding under her fingertips.
Then came the green plums.
She brought over the bamboo sieve, scooped up a handful of plums with her palm, and placed them one by one into the jar. Each plum found its own place so that they wouldn't crowd each other.
After adding one layer, add another layer of rock sugar. Repeat this process.
As a final step, Lin Ran handed her the liquor.
The girl took the bottle and aligned the bottle opening with the jar opening.
With a tilt of the hand, the clear liquor flowed from the bottle opening, landing on the rock sugar and splashing up tiny droplets.
The wine overflowed the rock sugar, then the green plums, submerging each green plum one by one.
Bubbles rose from between the plums, bubbling and gurgling upwards. She poured very slowly, stopping the wine about two fingers below the rim of the jar.
Lin Ran turned off the recording and handed her the oil paper and red string used for sealing the jar.
Su Peixue covered the mouth of the jar with oiled paper and flattened it with her palm. Then she took a red rope, wrapped it around the mouth of the jar, and tied a fisherman's knot. The red rope tightened into the oiled paper, making it squeak very softly.
"Alright, move the jar to the persimmon tree. Can you move it? If it's too heavy, you can pour some out first."
Lin Ran asked.
Anyway, videos need to be edited.
Su Peixue nodded; she found it very interesting.
On the way here in the morning, Lin Ran told her the general process, saying it would be a bit tiring. But Su Peixue wasn't afraid of being tired; she enjoyed the feeling of creating something from scratch.
She moved the jar under the persimmon tree, whose shade covered most of the yard. There was an open space next to the tree roots, paved with blue bricks. She placed the jar on the bricks and squatted down to straighten the bottom of the jar.
Lin Ran thought the courtyard seemed pretty nice.
Otherwise, I'll just rent here.
I don't know if I can get in touch with the homeowner. I'll have to ask the neighbors.
Su Peixue sat on the threshold, and Lin Ran handed her the last piece of red paper and a calligraphy brush.
She dipped a brush in ink, wrote the date on red paper, fanned the paper with her palm, and then pasted the red paper onto the jar.
Lin Ran had already filmed many scenes, spending the entire day in this small mountain village.
They ate food that they had brought in advance.
By the time all the shots were taken, the sun had already sunk below the ridgeline.
The girl's profile was bathed in the warm yellow light of the setting sun, her plain cotton and linen clothes enveloped in a golden halo. Strands of hair at her temples were ruffled by the wind, and her eyelashes appeared translucent in the light. On the wine jar beside her, the red paper fluttered gently in the breeze.
Lin Ran pressed the record button.
In the viewfinder, a plain-colored girl sits on the threshold, with a newly sealed wine jar beside her.
The setting sun shone from behind her, outlining her silhouette with a golden edge.
This shot lasted for ten seconds.
He had already written the subtitles in his mind.
Seal a jar for summer, and open it when the first snow falls.
After filming, Lin Ran turned off the equipment and began loading things into the car one by one.
After moving everything, he looked back at the yard.
Su Peixue was still standing under the persimmon tree.
But when she walked, her left foot landed lighter than her right. It wasn't a noticeable limp, just a slight deviation in her gait. As Lin Ran approached, she was reaching for the remaining bamboo basket.
"stop."
She stopped and turned her head.
Lin Ran squatted down and held her left ankle.
She tried to pull her foot back, but couldn't.
Lin Ran quickly took off her shoes and pulled her socks down to her ankles. Then he saw that there was a swollen area around her ankle bone. The swelling wasn't severe, but the color had changed, turning a light bluish tinge. It was obvious that she had fallen that morning.
She worked like that all day.
Going up and down the mountain, squatting by the spring to wash green plums, pacing back and forth in the yard, moving jars and tables. My left ankle is twisted, and I haven't said a word since this morning.
"You're really good at holding back."
Su Peixue curled her lips dismissively: "This little bit of pain is nothing."
Lin Ran didn't say anything. He straightened her socks and picked up her shoes. He stood up, put one hand under her knees and the other hand on her back, and lifted her up in his arms.
"Huh~?"
Su Peixue's eyes widened.
If you had told me earlier that I twisted my ankle, the zookeeper could have carried me like a princess. I would have tried to twist it every day.
It was already dark when the car left the village. There were no streetlights on the mountain road, and the car headlights shone on the road, making the trees on both sides recede into the distance.
Su Peixue sat in the passenger seat, her left leg curled up on the seat, with a bottle of iced mineral water that Lin Ran had taken out of the trunk on her ankle.
When the car pulled up in front of her rented apartment building, she groggily opened her eyes, not knowing when she had fallen asleep.
Lin Ran parked the car, walked around to the passenger side, and opened the door.
She instinctively reached out her hand, only to be picked up and carried by Lin Ran.
"Hehe~"
The girl pressed her face against Lin Ran's chest, her almond-shaped eyes half-closed, and a dazed smile appeared on her lips.
The apartment is small, with one bedroom and one living room.
There's a desk, a newly purchased computer, and a monitor in the living room.
There was a bed in the bedroom. Lin Ran put her on the bed and placed a pillow behind her back so she could lean against it.
"I'm going to buy medicine."
