Chapter 114 Meeting Gu Nianxi
Chapter 114 Meeting Gu Nianxi
Gu Nianxi thought to herself: Here we go again. She has been reading this script since she was a teenager. Every expression, every turn of events, every tear is so precise that it's as if it has been rehearsed.
She stood still.
Gu Zhaoxu, who was playing on his tablet, looked up, then threw the tablet onto the sofa and shouted at Gu Nianxi, "This is our house. Get out. You're not welcome."
Gu Nianxi's tears welled up instantly. She turned to leave, but as she reached the entrance, Gu Dingcheng's voice came from behind her: "Think it over carefully! If you don't agree to marry him, I'll cut off all your financial support from today!"
Gu Nianxi stopped. She turned around and stared at the man who, years ago, had worked tirelessly from dawn till dusk, supported by her mother, starting from a street stall, and who was now standing in a villa talking to her about "all sources of income."
Her voice turned cold: "Don't forget, without my mother's support, you'd still be selling things on the street. Every penny I spend comes from my mother's money."
Gu Dingcheng's face turned a deep purplish-red. He didn't hear what Huang Qian said behind him, but her tone was clearly adding fuel to the fire.
As Gu Nianxi pushed open the villa door, she heard Huang Qian's voice behind her: "You have no manners, hurry up and get married, you're an eyesore."
She got into the car, started the engine, and her heart was pounding so hard her whole chest was throbbing. She thought she was going to cry, but her eyes were dry.
She had driven this road countless times, from the villa to Tomson Riviera. The house was left to her by her mother.
Gu Nianxi threw herself onto the sofa, picked up a cushion, and stared at the night view of the Huangpu River outside the floor-to-ceiling window.
She originally wanted to form a women's league. With LOL being so popular, a well-established women's team might actually have a market.
Of the female streamers that Super Fish Treasure's account was using to boost their streams, only Su Peixue's streams were done manually; the other Queens were all boosted by third-party services and ended up failing.
Now the league is definitely out of the question, and that playboy from the Zheng family is still waiting for her to go for a "business marriage".
She didn't know how long she had been sitting on the sofa. In her daze, she unconsciously picked up her phone and dialed Su Peixue's number.
"Hey, Xuexue..."
She only said one name before she burst into tears.
Su Peixue listened on the other end of the phone.
Gu Nianxi poured out everything, speaking haltingly, sometimes bursting into tears halfway through. Su Peixue listened the whole time, occasionally letting out a soft, muffled "hmm."
After pouring out her heart for a long time, Gu Nianxi suddenly stopped. She glanced at the time on her phone screen. "Xuexue, I'm sorry, it's already three in the morning. How could you listen to me for so long?"
"It's nothing," Su Peixue's voice was still muffled.
Gu Nianxi heard a sound on the other end of the phone. It was the faint, low-frequency hum of a car driving by. "Are you outside? Where are you going so late?"
"Shanghai," Su Peixue said matter-of-factly, "It's been two hours on the highway. We'll arrive before dawn."
Gu Nianxi froze, holding her phone. She went through the events in her mind: Su Peixue had been listening to her cry for an hour or two and had already been driving on the highway for two hours.
They drove all the way from Luzhou to Shanghai to comfort her. She covered her mouth tightly, tears streaming down her face through her fingers.
"Xuexue...you're so kind."
Lin Ran yawned from the other end of the phone. "Well, that's what happens when you're Xuexue's number one fan."
Gu Nianxi sniffed hard. "Drive carefully, I'll pick you up at the highway exit."
"Just send your location. Oh, never mind, I almost forgot you live in Tomson Riviera."
Gu Nianxi burst into laughter at those words. "Drive carefully! I'll treat you all to food, drinks, and entertainment in Shanghai—it'll all be on me!"
After hanging up the phone, she held it to her chest, curled up on the sofa, and listened to the howling wind blowing outside the window. Her mood was no longer as cold as before.
On the highway, Lin Ran yawned and rolled down the car window a crack. A night breeze blew in, making him slightly more awake. "Xuexue, did you bring the peppermint balm? I'm a little sleepy."
Su Peixue rummaged through her bag in the passenger seat. "I forgot to bring it." Then she bent down and took off her white socks. "Here, you can smell these."
Lin Ran glanced at her. "Go get some sleep."
Su Peixue put her socks back on, leaned back in her chair, and closed her eyes. A few seconds later, she opened them again. "I can't sleep without the zookeeper catching my precious baby."
Lin Ran coughed violently. "Young lady, you speak without thinking. Don't slander me."
Su Peixue turned her head to look at him, her tone very serious. "Before I met the zookeeper, Xuexue was hungry every day and was underdeveloped. It was the zookeeper who raised me." She straightened her back. "So I belong to the zookeeper."
Lin Ran thought to herself, "That's nonsense. Although I was a bit thin before, I wasn't thin in the wrong places. Now that my face has regained some color, I look even better."
He turned his gaze back to the road ahead, staring at the highway illuminated by the headlights, and stepped on the gas to continue driving towards Shanghai.
As dawn approached, a pale white hue appeared on the horizon at the end of the highway, which then slowly turned golden.
Lin Ran drove off the highway and turned into Lujiazui according to the navigation. The buildings of Tomson Riviera stood quietly in the morning light, their glass curtain walls gleaming with a pale golden light.
Gu Nianxi was already waiting downstairs. She was wearing an oatmeal-colored loose-fitting knitted cardigan over a white T-shirt, dark blue straight-leg jeans, and fluffy slippers.
Her gray-blue bob was a little messy, and her eyes were red-rimmed, but her expression brightened instantly when she saw Su Peixue get out of the car. She quickly walked over and hugged Su Peixue tightly. Su Peixue rested her head on her shoulder in her arms, and she didn't let go of her hand.
Gu Nianxi hugged Su Peixue for a while, and finding that she still didn't let go, she couldn't help but find it amusing. She patted Su Peixue's head and said, "Don't worry, I'll only hug you, not your man."
Su Peixue's pretty face flushed pink instantly, and she let go of his hand.
Lin Ran nodded to Gu Nianxi. Gu Nianxi nodded back, one hand still resting on Su Peixue's shoulder. "Mr. Lin, it's an honor to meet you."
"Sister Xi, I've heard so much about you, top-ranked guy." Lin Ran locked the car door. "Driving while fatigued is not advisable. Let's rest first."
"Okay, let's have breakfast first. The room is all ready for you." Gu Nianxi led the two out of the residential area. There was a Hong Kong-style tea restaurant right next door.
She barely glanced at the menu before ticking off a long list: shrimp dumplings, rice noodle rolls, char siu buns, steamed spare ribs with black bean sauce, durian pastries, and mango pomelo sago.
Su Peixue curiously poked at the flaky pastry, and crumbs fell onto the plate. She picked them up with her chopsticks and put them in her mouth. The three of them ate and chatted, and when the bill came, it was over eight hundred yuan.
Lin Ran glanced at the bill. A pot of chrysanthemum tea cost eighty yuan. Gu Nianxi scanned the code and paid without even blinking.
She put down her teacup, leaned back in her chair, and looked at Lin Ran.
"Mr. Lin, I've been using the Magic Book. The product logic is very clear, and user stickiness is high, but now there are some well-disguised 'GGs' (players who exploit vulnerabilities).
