Chapter 19 A Different Perspective
Chapter 19 A Different Perspective
After Su Jue left, Liu Xu finally spoke: "He's nothing special, neither in terms of personality nor ability."
"Seven days ago, the night before his arrest, after I finished talking to you on the phone, Su Huai told me to take good care of him during this time." Pei Min kept tapping his hands on the armrest of the chair.
"Su Huai? Is he the one I know?" Liu Xu seemed to be thinking of something bad, and his face showed unease.
"It seems you have a pretty good impression of him," Pei Min teased.
"Freak...what did he say to you?" Liu Xu continued to ask.
"He told me that Su Jue is the son of Su Tinglan and Jiang Guanchao," Pei Min said, enunciating each word clearly. "Both of them were extremely powerful sorcerers, yet they mysteriously disappeared together ten years ago."
"I remember they weren't..." Liu Xu said.
"They're dead, but I believe in them both, and I believe in their child," Pei Min explained. "I don't care whether his promise to me stemmed from guilt or from a similar dream of heroism, the fact that he saved Liu Xue and Xu Menghe that night makes him worthy of trust."
……
Su Jue pondered the promise he had just made to Pei Min. He was actually a little unsure whether it was compensation to repay Pei Min or what he was truly pursuing.
All he wants is the truth.
While pondering, Su Jue opened her phone and found that Xu Menghe had sent a message.
"Are you back yet? I'm hungry, could you bring me some food?"
"What do you want to eat on the road?"
"Let's buy some potato chips!"
Su Jue glanced at her phone one last time, and after finding that she had no other requests, she went to the convenience store.
A moment later, Su Jue was walking back with a bag of potato chips in her hand.
Su Jue was wondering whether to tell Xu Menghe about Pei Min's god-making plan when she heard a commotion.
Three high school thugs were bullying a fat boy in a small park.
"Wang Yang?"
As Su Jue approached, she saw clearly what the victim looked like.
Seemingly ashamed, Wang Yang did not call for help after noticing Su Jue's gaze; instead, he lowered his head even further.
"What are you looking at, get lost!" One of the thugs spotted Su Jue and pointed at him, yelling insults.
"What if I don't?" Su Jue loosened her grip, put the bag on the ground, and slowly walked towards the three of them.
"I'll beat you to death today!" The thug strode over and kicked Su Jue.
He thought to himself that these thugs especially liked to make threats before a fight.
He calmly looked at the thug, thinking that even without his skills, it shouldn't be difficult for him to beat up a thug.
Su Jue dodged the kick by sidestepping it, and returned the kick with a backhand.
The two immediately engaged in combat, and Su Jue quickly won the "street fight." However, before he could turn around, another attack landed on him.
"Stop nagging." Another thug threw away a palm-sized stone he had just picked up from the ground.
Su Jue fell to the ground, and before she could get up, more beatings came her way.
Wang Yang kept his head down and curled up against the exercise equipment in the park.
Perhaps after a long time, they got tired, and finally kicked Su Jue and left.
Before they left, they didn't forget to threaten Su Jue a couple of times, telling him not to tell anyone.
Su Jue staggered to his feet. He touched his abdomen and realized that the wound was still there.
"That guy, 'All Beings'... wasn't completely cured at all," Su Jue complained as she slowly walked towards Wang Yang.
"They're gone." Su Jue reached out her hand to Wang Yang.
"I'm sorry..." Wang Yang seemed to be apologizing for not helping earlier.
But Su Jue didn't really care whether the other party came to help or not, because he felt that the other party was the recipient of help and he was the giver of help.
"I came here to help you," Su Jue explained. He picked up the potato chips from the ground, gave a bag to Wang Yang, and said, "They've crushed them, but you'll have to make do with this."
"I thought you wouldn't help me," Wang Yang said, opening the potato chips and looking down.
"Why do you think that?" Su Jue asked curiously.
"You used to never get involved in these kinds of things..."
"Ah! I didn't mean what you said, I just felt... you used to seem to care a lot about something, but you also acted very casually and indifferently about almost everything. You created a very cold image for yourself."
"So I remember, you probably didn't have many friends when you first came here," Wang Yang said.
That's why he took the initiative to befriend Su Jue back then; he didn't have many friends when he was a child because he was overweight.
How can I manage without friends?
How can that be?
He felt really lonely, very lonely.
Therefore, he didn't want others to experience this feeling.
"Was I like this before?" Su Jue was taken aback and asked in return.
"Yes, you suddenly stopped coming to school after that day, and I was very worried. The teacher said you had taken a leave of absence. I don't know what happened to you, but I feel that you have changed a lot during this time... for the better! Also... thank you for helping me today. I knew I made the right friend!" Wang Yang grinned.
"Then what will you do in the future?" Su Jue thought of those people from earlier.
"It's okay, who am I? I just accidentally got caught by them today. I'll call the police another day and that'll be the end of it. You can go about your business as usual, I'm fine." Wang Yang pointed to himself with his thumb and exaggerated as he usually did when chatting with Su Jue.
"Okay, if you need anything, just tell me. We're... friends." Su Jue nodded and turned back to the convenience store.
At the villa entrance, Su Jue took out his key to open the door; he had just bought several new bags of potato chips.
"Why is it taking so long? I'm so hungry..." Xu Menghe came out of her room when she heard the door open and looked up at the door from upstairs.
"What's going on... Pei Min and the others hit you?" Xu Menghe immediately ran downstairs.
She saw that Su Jue's body was covered with wounds of varying sizes.
"I ran into some thugs bullying my classmate on the way here, and they beat him up." Su Jue handed over the big bag of potato chips.
He had another bag in his hand, filled with crushed potato chips, which he planned to eat himself.
"Are you kidding me? You'd get beaten up by thugs?" Xu Menghe took the bag and put it on the table next to her. "Let me treat you."
During the treatment, Su Jue suddenly noticed that Xu Menghe's formula had turned blue, and the treatment speed was faster than before.
But he didn't ask any questions. Instead, he watched the words move over his body.
Unfortunately, he couldn't learn it. He couldn't learn it when Liu Xu used the technique on him today either, and he didn't know what was going on.
"Your injury... you were really beaten up by thugs?" Xu Menghe asked after the treatment was completed.
"The opponent wasn't a sorcerer, so it's best not to use spells to deal with it, but I was careless, so I got hit," Su Jue said.
During their casual conversation, Xu Menghe noticed that Su Jue was missing something.
He's missing a signature gesture he used when he was chatting.
She realized that the other party had not thrown a fireball.
After a moment of silence behind her, Su Jue turned around and saw Xu Menghe toss a small object toward her.
Su Jue caught it; it was a candle. After looking at it, Su Jue placed it on the table.
"Hey, Su Jue..." Xu Menghe looked at the candle that Su Jue had placed on the table and spoke cautiously.
"You're not... unable to use magic anymore, are you?"
