Chapter 8: Academics Fail, Romance Succeeds
Chapter 8: Academics Fail, Romance Succeeds
Night fell, and Dad came home from get off work.
Lu Yuan was filled with longing and ran out of his room almost immediately.
In his past life, he couldn't even attend his father's funeral, and this regret was etched into his very bones.
When he rushed out, his father was just about to sit down to eat. Seeing his hurried appearance, he said unhappily, "You brat, do you have so much energy to burn all day long? If you're really bored, go work in the factory. There are plenty of ways to cure your ADHD."
Sure enough, it was still the same dad I remembered who never gave me a friendly look whenever he saw him.
In the past, Lu Yuan would have thought that his father disliked him from the bottom of his heart.
But now, he clearly sees the softness hidden beneath that stern exterior; it's just a sharp tongue but a soft heart.
From childhood to adulthood, Lu Yuan's father has almost never refused him anything he wanted.
Lu Yuan really wanted to take a good look at his father, but when he actually stood face to face with him, he felt at a loss, not knowing what to do or say.
A thousand words were stuck in my chest, and I couldn't find the words to say for a moment.
Only now did he realize that he had never been good at expressing his feelings.
Those heavy feelings, once on the tip of his tongue, all turned into silence, unlike in his previous life when he could readily say "I love you" and "I like you" to Xu Lingjing.
"What are you doing standing here? Do you have something to say?" Dad felt a little uncomfortable being stared at.
Lu Yuan forced a smile: "It's nothing, I just saw you were coming home from get off work and came to pick you up."
"cut."
My dad casually tossed his hand, his mouth full of disdain, but the corners of his mouth unconsciously turned up slightly, showing that he was in a very good mood.
After a long day at work, my son greets me when I get home. That warmth is what makes home feel like.
Men work hard to build a family, and what they hope for is to be greeted by their wives and children when they return home.
Dad served the rice and sat down, but instead of picking up his chopsticks, he took out his wallet, pulled out five hundred-yuan bills, and handed them over: "Out of money again, huh?"
Lu Yuan was slightly taken aback when he saw the money handed to him.
In my memory, the last time I reached out to take money from my dad was more than ten years ago.
"What? You think it's not enough?" Dad frowned and pulled out two more bills. "Don't give me that excuse about school fees for materials. You can't fool me. Your uncle has been keeping an eye on you for me."
Lu Yuan smiled helplessly.
It turns out that in my dad's eyes, my sudden attempt to befriend him was solely for the purpose of getting money.
In fact, he always carried one or two hundred yuan of pocket money with him when he went out, which was considered quite wealthy in Jiangcheng at that time.
No wonder Xu Lingjing, despite clearly disliking him, has never been willing to let go completely; all she values is his family background.
Unless she meets someone richer than him, Xu Lingjing will never easily dump him.
Of course, there is no shortage of people from better-off families in college. However, once Xu Lingjing entered college, she was no longer the only one who stood out. With more competition, those boys with better conditions might not be interested in her.
Lu Yuan initially didn't want to accept the money, but then he thought it would be useful in the future, so he accepted it with a smile.
The night was calm and uneventful.
The next morning, Lu Yuan got up very early, which was unusual for him.
His mother originally planned to wake him up as usual, since this kid has always been a serious sleeper and he would definitely be late if she called him several times.
He woke up on his own today, which surprised my mother.
Lu Yuan appeared exceptionally cheerful and energetic. After washing up, he sat down at the dining table to prepare for breakfast.
During dinner, my mom casually reminded me, "I put the portion I brought for your classmate in the kitchen, don't forget to get it later."
In the past, the breakfasts that Lu Yuan brought to Xu Lingjing were all prepared by her mother.
Thinking about this, he felt a pang of guilt, realizing how incredibly foolish he had been to make his mother worry about such an ungrateful and completely unrelated woman.
"Mom, you don't need to make them anymore. I won't bring them to her."
"What's wrong? Did you have a fight with that girl?" Mom asked curiously.
Lu Yuan was silent for a moment, then said seriously, "Mom, I want to study hard now and don't want to be bothered by these things anymore."
His mother was taken aback at first, then reached out and touched his forehead, both amused and exasperated: "You don't have a fever, what nonsense are you talking about?"
"what?"
"Does your mother not know whether you're academically inclined or not?" Mom shook her head with a smile. "If you really have a conflict, just apologize. A real man doesn't need to back down. As for your studies, just do your best. Your father and I just hope you go to school peacefully. Even if you don't excel academically, it's good if you can find a girl you like. As the saying goes, you might not succeed in your studies, but you can still find love."
"Holy crap..."
Lu Yuan was both annoyed and amused.
With such open-minded and optimistic parents, it's no wonder I was spoiled rotten in the past.
……
In the end, Lu Yuan still took the breakfast his mother had prepared and went out.
He made an appointment with Ye Yixian to come find him in Class 5 before morning reading.
When I arrived at the classroom, there were still ten minutes before morning reading, but Ye Yixian had not yet appeared.
Lu Yuan asked Gao Zhe, who had arrived earlier, "Has Ye Yixian come looking for me?"
Gao Zhe shook his head: "No."
As they spoke, Gao Zhe's gaze fell on the lunchbox he had placed on the table: "Brother Yuan, you brought breakfast again?"
His voice wasn't loud, but it was loud enough for the people in the front row to hear, and several curious glances immediately turned towards him.
Everyone in the class knew that only one person was entitled to enjoy the breakfast that Lu Yuan brought.
"Lingjing, look, he brought you breakfast again. I thought he wouldn't bring it today." Jiang Yiqing gently nudged Xu Lingjing.
In fact, Xu Lingjing had already noticed Lu Yuan the moment he entered the room.
She had already guessed that Lu Yuan must have prepared an even more lavish breakfast today, intending to apologize and make peace with her.
"I might not even be willing to accept it."
Xu Lingjing arrogantly raised her chin, her face full of disdain.
Jiang Yiqing rolled her eyes almost imperceptibly, then kindly advised, "Lingjing, that's enough. If you really anger Lu Yuan, it won't do you any good."
"What can he possibly do?" Xu Lingjing said confidently. "I gave him the chance to pursue me, so naturally he has to act accordingly. Who else could he possibly like besides me?"
"But……"
"Alright, Qingqing, why are you worrying?" Xu Lingjing said confidently. "Just wait and see, he'll definitely come over with a grin and try to please me later."
In her view, Lu Yuan used to throw tantrums because of her coldness, but without exception, he would always take the initiative to apologize and ask for forgiveness in the end.
On the other side, Lu Yuan was still wondering if Ye Yixian had forgotten their promise.
He paced back and forth at the back door of the classroom, holding his lunchbox, waiting anxiously.
His anxious and restless appearance, however, was interpreted by Xu Lingjing and her group as him pondering how to apologize.
"Lingjing, it seems Lu Yuan really likes you. He even takes so long to think about apologizing."
"Yes, I really envy you."
Several girls chimed in.
Lu Yuan is good-looking, tall, and comes from a wealthy family. His unwavering pursuit of Xu Lingjing naturally attracts a lot of envy.
Amidst the flattery of the crowd, Xu Lingjing's vanity was greatly satisfied, and her smugness was evident in her expression.
