Chapter 26 An Encounter
Chapter 26 An Encounter
After Chen Ran sat down next to her, Kim Eun-sook spoke first: "According to Representative Yoon, your script is ready to be approved by SBS and filming will begin soon."
Chen Ran nodded: "Yes, Representative Yin has taken good care of me."
"It's because you are very capable. I also looked at the scripts for the later episodes of 'School 2013,' and they were still well written."
"You are indeed a very talented young man. When I was your age, I wasn't at your level."
"Thank you for the compliment, teacher. You flatter me," Chen Ran said sincerely.
Kim Eun-sook, however, was slightly taken aback when she heard Chen Ran omit her name and address her directly as "teacher."
She quickly regained her composure, her face returning to a gentle smile, but her gaze towards Chen Ran held a different meaning.
Chen Ran glanced at Kim Eun-sook's computer screen: "Is the teacher writing her new script?"
Kim Eun-sook nodded: "Yes, it's that new script set in a high school, but I've gotten a bit stuck while writing it."
Before Chen Ran could ask any questions, Kim Eun-sook told him about the story's background and outline, as well as the problems they were currently facing.
The script Kim Eun-sook was writing was the later hit "The Heirs" that swept across Asia.
The story of this play is essentially about the love story between a prince and Cinderella.
However, besides the male and female leads, the other main supporting characters in this drama were also outstanding, which is why it achieved excellent results.
"So the teacher feels that the current story's theme is a bit too..."
Chen Ran carefully considered his words: "Hmm... It's too ordinary, no different from other similar stories, which is why I got stuck."
Kim Eun-sook nodded: "Yes, I want to find a different perspective."
Chen Ran pretended to be thinking about the same question, but in reality he was refining his wording.
"Hmm...Teacher, in your story, apart from the female lead Cha Eun-sang, aren't all the other main characters from prominent chaebol families?"
"Then perhaps we could try to incorporate... well... a concept similar to 'If you want to wear the crown, you must bear the weight' into the story."
"Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown..."
Kim Eun-sook paused for a moment, then repeated it to herself. Suddenly, her eyes lit up, and she felt that the thoughts that had been stuck in her mind suddenly became clear.
"Yes, yes, that's a great idea. That's exactly what I want to express in the story."
She excitedly typed those words quickly into the computer, then turned to look at Chen Ran, her eyes filled with obvious admiration.
"Chen Ran, your idea is really excellent. It just goes to show how clever young people are."
Chen Ran waved his hands repeatedly: "Teacher, you flatter me. I just suddenly thought of it. As long as you think it's appropriate, that's fine."
Of course you think it's good, because it was your own idea that came up later, and this line has become one of the classic lines in the show.
Chen Ran was able to give Kim Eun-sook what she wanted so quickly simply because he had seen the complete script for the future.
He himself did not expect that his timing today would be so coincidental, as he happened to run into Kim Eun-sook pondering this issue.
With a major problem solved, Kim Eun-sook's eyes were filled with joy, and her gaze towards Chen Ran softened even more.
Afterwards, she took the initiative to continue talking to Chen Ran about the script.
It wasn't until around noon, when a rumbling sound came from Chen Ran's stomach, that Kim Eun-sook stopped talking.
She glanced at the time and smiled apologetically at Chen Ran, "Sorry, Ran, I forgot the time."
After more than two hours of conversation, Kim Eun-sook's way of addressing Chen Ran changed from the respectful "Chen Ran-xi" at the beginning to the more affectionate "Xiao Ran".
Chen Ran smiled and waved his hand: "It's alright, teacher."
"Come on, let me treat you to dinner."
"Okay, thank you, teacher."
Chen Ran did not refuse. Since Kim Eun-sook had taken the initiative to speak, there was no need for him to pretend to be polite.
Seeing that Chen Ran agreed, Kim Eun-sook smiled and nodded.
She likes straightforward and unpretentious people, and that's her personality too.
"Is there anything you'd like to eat, Xiao Ran?"
"I'm fine with either."
"Okay, let's go eat barbecue then."
Chen Ran's lips twitched slightly: "Okay."
It's clear that people from the peninsula still have a special fondness for barbecue.
Afterwards, Kim Eun-sook packed her things and left the coffee shop with Chen Ran, then found a barbecue restaurant nearby.
During the meal, Chen Ran also consulted Kim Eun-sook about many problems that might be encountered during filming.
Although the peninsula is a screenwriter-centric system where screenwriters wield considerable power within the production team, some overt and covert problems still exist.
Especially considering Chen Ran's young age, lack of experience and past achievements, and being a foreigner.
Kim Eun-sook patiently answered Chen Ran's questions, which Chen Ran learned a lot from.
The two then exchanged contact information, and Kim Eun-sook told Chen Ran that he could contact her if he had any problems in the future, which clearly shows that she already regards Chen Ran as a close junior.
The meal was a pleasant one for both the host and guests, and Chen Ran and Jin Enshu parted ways at the entrance of the barbecue restaurant.
"I'm leaving now, Xiaoran. I have some other things to do this afternoon."
"Okay, teacher, take care."
Watching Kim Eun-sook get into the car and leave, Chen Ran took out his phone and checked the time.
It's not even two o'clock yet, there's still plenty of time.
Chen Ran thought about it and decided that he should go to the car dealership now, make a decision as soon as possible, and pick up the car sooner.
He hailed a taxi and headed straight for the car dealership.
Chen Ran is planning to buy a Volvo this time, a second-tier luxury brand, whose brand value is one level lower than that of BBA (BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi).
However, Volvo cars are known for their excellent safety features.
Safety was the main reason Chen Ran chose this brand.
Since learning that he died in a car accident 25 years ago, Chen Ran has become even more concerned about safety.
Nearly twenty minutes later, the taxi arrived at the Volvo dealership located in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu.
Chen Ran paid the fare and got out of the car. He glanced at the store in front of him and was about to step inside.
Suddenly, a voice sounded from behind: "Chen Ran".
Chen Ran was slightly taken aback and turned his head.
A petite figure wearing a black baseball cap and a black face mask was standing in front of a BMW.
The car door wasn't even closed yet, so they had obviously just gotten out of the car.
Although the other person was wearing a mask, Chen Ran immediately recognized them by their eyes.
Because of these eyes, he can see them at home every day.
But Jessica obviously couldn't be here in 12, so the person who came was clearly...
Jessica Jung.
Jessica Jung didn't expect to run into Chen Ran here. She had just parked her car when she saw Chen Ran get out of the taxi in front of her.
She glanced at Chen Ran, then at the Volvo store next door.
"You're buying a car?"
"Um."
"Then let's go, I'll go with you."
"what?"
