Chapter 62 The Most Peaceful Days
Chapter 62 The Most Peaceful Days
She had originally intended to invite Ktura to chat with her a little longer, but the girl was both shy and nervous, so she simply told her to go back to her room.
But Charlotte knew it.
These two have been living in the same room for the past few days. Although it may be related to the discomfort after moving, it's still a bit strange.
Just as Charlotte was lost in thought, Leon had already gone upstairs and arrived at the door of the room.
Pushing open the door, I saw Ktura sitting on the bed, wearing a light blue nightgown that reached her ankles—a new one Charlotte had asked the housekeeper to make for her.
A book lay open on her lap, and she moved her fingers between the lines, one word at a time, looking quite strained.
Ketura can recognize some simple letters, which Li Ang taught her before.
"elder brother!"
Hearing the door open, Ketura looked up, her blue eyes lighting up instantly. She put down her book, jumped off the bed, and ran barefoot to him.
"You're back! Have you eaten?"
"I've already eaten." Li Ang patted her head, running his fingers through her soft blonde hair.
Ketura squinted, like a cat whose fur had been stroked, his face full of satisfaction.
What did you do at home today?
"Reading. Miss Charlotte asked Mr. Donald to take me to the study, where there are so many books. By the way, brother, you've been out for quite a while today."
"I visited some old friends, Mrs. Martha and the others."
"How is Mrs. Martha?"
"Okay. She asked me to ask you when you're going back to see her."
Ketura pursed his lips but did not answer. Seeing this, Li Ang sat down on the edge of the bed, and Ketura followed, sitting down next to him and resting his head on his shoulder.
"Brother, this place is wonderful. It's like a dream," Ktura whispered.
"This is reality."
"Miss Charlotte asked me today if I wanted to learn something," Ktura suddenly said.
"What to study?"
"She said that if I wanted to go to school, she could help me find a school. If I wanted to study art, she could help me find a teacher. Whatever I wanted to do, she could help me."
"So what do you want to learn? Go to school?" Li Ang asked.
Ktura didn't answer immediately. She buried her face in Leon's arms. "I want to. But... I'm afraid. Afraid that one day we'll wake up and go back to where we started."
"No, it won't happen." Li Ang rubbed her little head again.
"Really?"
"real."
"Then I want to go to school." Ktura's tone became more determined. "I want to learn more, become more capable, and help my brother. I don't want to just stay at home and do nothing."
"You don't need to help me. You just need to live well, that's enough."
Ktura's eyes reddened slightly, but she didn't cry. She simply remained in her current position and mumbled a "hmm."
Footsteps echoed down the corridor, and soon Charlotte appeared at the door.
She had changed into a nightgown, her long white hair loose. When she saw the two embracing in the room, her gaze paused for a moment.
"You two seem to have a really good relationship." There was an indescribable hint in her tone. Li Ang felt that this woman might be jealous, but he couldn't be sure.
"After all, we are siblings." Li Ang released Ketura from his arms and said without changing his expression.
"But you're not blood siblings."
Clearly, Charlotte knew that Leon and Ktura were not biological siblings, and that investigating this matter would not be difficult; given her abilities, she could easily find out.
Therefore, Li Ang was not surprised by this.
"Although we are not blood-related siblings, in my eyes, Ktura is still my most important sister."
"Brother." Ktura's eyes welled up with tears again.
After being unexpectedly shown a scene of sibling affection, Charlotte clicked her tongue, turned around, left with a "Go to sleep early" message, and then departed.
The next two days were the most peaceful days for Li Ang since he arrived at the mansion.
Without cultists or witches, life couldn't be more relaxed than reading books and living the life of an aristocrat every day.
Ketura quickly adapted to life here, and every time she got up, she would fold the blankets neatly.
She didn't do this before in the slums, because the two of them only had one thin blanket to cover themselves with, which they could just fold up haphazardly.
It wasn't until she arrived here that she realized that wealthy people's beds have more than one soft comforter.
Originally, these tasks were to be done by the maids, but she didn't want to trouble others.
When Li Ang came downstairs, he found his younger sister already in the restaurant, eating a piece of bread in small bites.
Charlotte sat in the main seat, holding a cup of black tea. Her plate was empty, indicating that she had finished eating.
"Good morning." Li Ang sat down to Charlotte's left.
"You got up a little late."
"well enough."
Charlotte didn't say much about this, but simply turned her gaze to Ktura, "Little Ktura, would you like me to teach you how to appreciate tea?"
"Tea tasting?" Upon hearing the detective's question, Ktura's eyes revealed a clear and utter confusion.
She clicked her tongue again, feeling that the black tea she had just drunk was quite delicious, but she couldn't quite put her finger on why.
Charlotte gestured to the maid beside her to fill her cup, then picked up her own teacup to demonstrate.
"Watch my hand gestures first. Pinch the cup handle with your index finger and thumb, support the bottom of the cup with your middle finger, and don't stick your little finger out."
Ketura followed her example, carefully picking up the teacup. Her fingers were a little stiff, and the tea sloshed around in the cup, but didn't spill.
"Very good," Charlotte praised. "Take three sips. First, taste the temperature; second, taste the flavor; and third, decide whether you like it or not."
Ketura took three serious sips, put down his teacup, and said, "It tastes even better than before."
"Of course." Charlotte took an elegant sip. "That's the proper way to drink tea."
"It's just your imagination." Lord picked up the teacup in his hand and drank it all in one gulp. "This is how you truly enjoy drinking tea."
"How rude," Charlotte shook her head helplessly, not bothering to question Li Ang's thoughts.
After breakfast, Charlotte returned to her study to work on some documents.
With the departure of the Third and Seventh Branches, the handover of their jurisdictions was fraught with problems, not to mention that Lina had asked her to persuade the detectives to take over.
She suddenly became very busy. She was nowhere to be seen all day.
During this period, many people went to see her, including high-ranking government officials and other nobles.
But she treated everyone the same way: neither cold nor warm, neither humble nor arrogant. After hearing their purpose, she would either nod in agreement or shake her head in refusal, never dragging things out.
