Chapter 35 Lack of Culture is Lack of Culture
Chapter 35 Lack of Culture is Lack of Culture
"Scumbag!"
Upon hearing this, Shen Jiayi glared at Ye Kai and, as usual, punched him once. Not satisfied, she punched him again.
"Why is there a follow-up injection?"
Ye Kai said he couldn't understand Shen Jiayi's second punch.
"This is for Little Fish Sister."
Shen Jiayi answered confidently.
"Uh-huh."
Although Chen Xiaoyu didn't take any action, he chuckled to show his support for Shen Jiayi.
"I'm not a scumbag, I just want to give 900 million girls a home."
"When you meet an even worse jerk in the future, you'll see how many good things I have in comparison."
Ye Kai thought of a sentence that came to mind later and blurted it out.
"Ptooey! Ptooey! Ptooey!"
"My luck can't be that bad, right? I can't possibly run into a jerk every time I go out?"
Shen Jiayi pursed her lips, unconvinced.
"Don't underestimate a scumbag. Being a scumbag isn't easy. Not only do you need to be manipulative, but you also need to be multi-talented and full of sexual tension."
"Of course, being a 'bad girl' isn't easy either. You need good looks, a good education, knowledge of 'tea art' (a euphemism for infidelity), and the ability to do squats..."
Ye Kai's witty remarks flowed effortlessly. He thought to himself, "Although I know that before your rebirth you became a mother at Hong Langman because your family fell on hard times, it's also an undeniable fact that you encountered a scumbag."
If she weren't extremely disappointed with life, what well-educated girl from a top university would go and become a mother at Hong Langman?
"Students, you can change your clothes now!"
Deputy Director Wang finally ran over and reminded them that it was almost time to change into their costumes and join the folk performance team.
Shehuo performances are equivalent to folk carnivals or recreational activities in China, and are also the most important cultural activities during the Spring Festival.
This collection not only showcases a rich variety of art forms, but also contains profound cultural connotations and historical background.
It is said that the Shehuo performance originated from ancient sacrificial activities, which aimed to pray for a good harvest and ward off evil and disasters. Over time, it has gradually evolved into an intangible cultural heritage.
Tonight's folk performance in Xinghua City includes programs provided by various township and community organizations as well as municipal departments. The main programs include stilt walking, dragon dance, lion dance, Yangko dance, land boat race, waist drum, bamboo horse, majestic gong and drum performance, and iron flower performance.
Of course, the float parade is also one of the most eye-catching programs.
Ye Kai and his group's performance was the first in line, led by a team of colorful flags, followed by the group of big-headed dolls. While twisting and turning, they also interacted with the audience on both sides to increase the fun of the show.
"Thump—thump thump—"
After three cannon shots, the procession set off, proceeding along the pre-prepared route.
The floats leading the way played music full of local flavor.
The flag team, carrying large flags, followed closely behind.
The big-headed dolls stepped to the drumbeats, played tricks with their feet, exchanged positions with each other, and teased each other from all sides.
Ye Kai held up the heavy traditional craft headgear and observed the outside world through a limited field of vision. In fact, his main field of vision was at the mouth of the big-headed doll, where the opening was larger and the range of vision was wider.
"It's a pity I can't take photos whenever I want, but luckily I've already taken some footage, so I should be able to show it to my grandma."
"Once we reach the next checkpoint, I'll be able to get out and continue filming the various programs that follow."
While thinking about the next steps, Ye Kai swayed his body and walked with a flamboyant gait, interacting with Shen Jiayi and Chen Xiaoyu beside him, including classic teasing gestures and bumping into each other, having a great time.
The entire parade was quite physically demanding for the participants. After half an hour, Shen Jiayi and Chen Xiaoyu exclaimed that they couldn't take it anymore, so the three of them left the group.
Ye Kai saw a coconut water vendor nearby, so he bought some and shared it among the three of them.
"The last performance seems to be iron flower fireworks."
"This is quite rare. I heard that the master was invited from Zezhou and his skill level is extremely high. We must take a good look at him."
Shen Jiayi took a few sips of coconut juice, took a breath, and had a few beads of sweat on her rosy cheeks. She was in a very good mood; she had a blast tonight.
Iron flower fireworks are a traditional activity in the Shanxi and Henan regions, with a long history, and have spread to many parts of the country. Shen Jiayi had seen them before when she traveled with her parents, so she was not unfamiliar with them.
"I've never seen it before."
Chen Xiaoyu said with a wronged expression.
She was a top student from a young age, and having skipped two grades, she naturally had more time to study. As a result, she knew very little about the outside world and had never had the chance to see the iron flower performance, which even Ye Kai had never seen in person. She had seen other performances, though.
"Make sure it's a hit! Make sure it's a hit!"
"Play the flower, play the flower, the more you play, the more prosperous you become!"
At 9:30 p.m., the much-anticipated iron flower performance finally began.
The venue for the iron flower performance was built on the city wall on one side of the drum tower in Xinghua City, about 20 meters above the ground. This was mainly to increase the height so that more people could see the spectacular iron flower performance.
The craftsmen first built a flower shed on the city wall. The roof of the shed was covered with a layer of fresh willow branches. A pole more than ten feet high was erected in the center of the top of the flower shed, called the "old pole", on which firecrackers, fireworks and so on were placed.
Next to the flower shed stands a furnace used for melting molten iron, where prepared pig iron is melted into molten iron for later use.
"here we go!"
As someone shouted, the craftsman poured molten iron into a flower stick, which was about the thickness of a fist and a little over a foot long. The top of the stick had a round groove about an inch in diameter to hold the molten iron.
The craftsman, holding a flower stick filled with molten iron in one hand and an empty one in the other, shirtless with a gourd ladle upside down on his head, quickly ran to the flower shed and struck the upper stick with the lower one.
A dozen or so craftsmen took turns working, one after another, moving back and forth between the furnace and the flower shed.
One iron rod shoots into the sky, followed by another. The molten iron, reaching a temperature of 1600 degrees Celsius, rushes towards the flower shed and immediately bursts apart upon contact with the fresh willow branches on the roof, shooting into the night sky like a giant umbrella enveloping the performers.
Light and fireworks burst forth together, outlining the night sky like a dazzling display of fire and silver flowers, or like a celestial maiden scattering blossoms. As they fell to the ground, they resembled splashing gold and silver, drawing cheers from the onlookers.
At the same time, the molten iron ignited the firecrackers and fireworks on the old pole, and for a moment the firecrackers on the ground and the fireworks in the sky exploded together, captivating the soul.
Holy crap!
"It's fucking gorgeous!"
At this moment, Ye Kai said that any further embellishment would be superfluous to describe this spectacular scene, and only the word "Holy crap" could express his greatest respect for the craftsmen's meticulous efforts in preserving this intangible cultural heritage.
"To be uncultured is to be uncultured."
Shen Jiayi and Chen Xiaoyu exchanged a smile and commented in unison.
"I got 139 in Chinese!"
Ye Kai responded confidently.
