"Old Ge, keep this to yourself for now, don't tell anyone, especially not your so-called partner. Just act like nothing's wrong. IB will probably sue you soon. You just need to actively defend yourself. I've already arranged a lawyer for you, and everything will proceed according to normal procedures. Do you understand what I mean?"
Huang Xiaochuan meant that they should not alert Ge Changli for the time being. Although he was fully capable of helping Ge Changli solve the problem immediately, the most important thing at the moment was not to help Ge Changli get out of the default crisis, but to use their own methods against them and take down Yan Jianhong, the insidious villain hiding behind the scenes.
Ge Changli didn't understand Huang Xiaochuan's meaning at first, but he quickly realized it and nodded gratefully, "I understand!"
Huang Xiaochuan then comforted Ge Changli for a few more minutes, and then asked Gao Song to take him downstairs.
After Ge Changli left with Gao Song, Huang Xiaochuan sat at the tea table for a while, then made a phone call.
After Gao Song saw Ge Changli off, he was about to return to his office when he suddenly saw Yu Wei appear in the lobby on the first floor of the building. He quickly and warmly went to greet him.
"Yu Ke!"
Hearing the voice, Yu Wei turned around and saw Gao Song. He smiled and asked, "It's you! Is your boss here?"
If it were anyone else, Gao Song might have maintained a certain air of superiority, but he dared not do so in front of this person. He hurriedly said, "Yes, yes! I'll go up with you."
For some reason, Yu Wei has been feeling a lot of emotions these past few days, constantly reminiscing about his teenage years in Qingjiang. He doesn't know what's wrong with him. He happened to be attending a meeting at a company in the city this afternoon, and after it ended, he came here directly to talk to Huang Xiaochuan.
"Huh? You're a rare guest!" Huang Xiaochuan was quite surprised to see Yu Wei, because Yu Wei rarely came to his office.
Yu Wei, however, acted quite casually: "I just happened to be passing by, so I came up to see you."
Seeing this, Gao Song wisely left, making sure to close the office door behind him.
"Tea or coffee?" Huang Xiaochuan asked as he stood up.
Yu Wei waved his hand: "Don't bother." As he spoke, he admired the beautiful city view outside the window. The typhoon had just passed, and the azure sky was still filled with clouds. The blue sky and white clouds were quite beautiful.
After all, the two had grown up together since childhood, and Huang Xiaochuan could clearly sense that Yu Wei's mood was a bit off today, even though he seemed fine on the surface.
But he didn't ask any further questions, and personally brewed a cup of tea for him.
"Give!"
"Thank you!" Yu Wei took the teacup from Huang Xiaochuan's hand.
After a long pause, Yu Wei suddenly asked, "Do you remember the Qingjiang Building?"
The Qingjiang Building that Yu Wei mentioned was a landmark building in Qingjiang City in the 1980s. Huang Xiaochuan certainly remembered it. He remembered that not long after it was completed, Old Huang took him up there once. At that time, standing on the top floor and looking down at the city, he had a great feeling of being on top of the world. In fact, the building was only eleven stories high.
"Of course I remember. What's wrong? Why did you suddenly think of Qingjiang Building?"
Yu Wei continued, seemingly oblivious to the world around him, "Back then, I stood on the top floor of the Qingjiang Building and saw the same blue sky and white clouds, surrounded by low-rise buildings." As he spoke, Yu Wei pointed out the window.
Although Huang Xiaochuan felt that Yu Wei was acting strangely today, he still responded to Yu Wei on this topic: "Back then, it must have been sometime in the 80s, right? At that time, this was the only tall building in the entire Qingjiang City; none of the other buildings were more than five stories high."
Yu Wei nodded, then put down his teacup and invited, "If you're free tonight, how about a drink?"
Seeing that Yu Wei had taken the initiative to invite him, Huang Xiaochuan naturally couldn't refuse, especially since he didn't have any social engagements tonight, so he asked, "Your place or mine?"
Unexpectedly, Yu Wei said, "I'm not going to anyone's house, not even your brother-in-law's restaurant. I know a small restaurant that serves very authentic Huaiyang cuisine. I'll take you there to try it."
Seeing Yu Wei's attitude, Huang Xiaochuan naturally agreed.
However, Huang Xiaochuan made an excuse and called Yu Xiang after leaving the office.
"Has Yu Wei gotten into any trouble lately?"
Huang Xiaochuan's nonsensical words left Yu Xiang momentarily confused.
"I haven't heard anything about him."
Suddenly, Yu Xiang remembered something and asked anxiously, "What happened to Yu Wei?"
Huang Xiaochuan suddenly realized he shouldn't have made that call; wasn't this just asking for trouble? He quickly explained, "Don't be so alarmed, okay? He's here with me right now, and he suddenly came over and said he wanted to have a drink with me tonight. I thought he had something to say, so I came out to call and ask you."
Yu Xiang breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this, but still complained, "You too, if he invites you for a drink, just drink with him, but you have to call and scare me. I think you're just bored."
Well! He didn't find out anything and was even blamed. Huang Xiaochuan could only swallow his bad luck and accept it.
That evening, Yu Wei led Huang Xiaochuan to the entrance of an alley. Since the car couldn't go in, the two got out and walked. Gao Song and the others followed them at a distance. After walking about a hundred meters, they arrived at an inconspicuous little restaurant.
It seems Yu Wei frequents this small restaurant; he greets the owner familiarly.
The boss greeted Yu Wei warmly as soon as he saw him, saying, "You're here!"
Upon hearing this, Huang Xiaochuan realized that the owner spoke with a Qingjiang accent. So the owner was from Qingjiang! No wonder Yu Wei said that his Huaiyang cuisine was authentic.
Yu Wei didn't stand on ceremony with the boss and said directly, "There are only two of us. You can prepare some dishes for us to go with our drinks. Remember, don't let your apprentice do it; you do it yourself."
"Don't worry!" The restaurant owner said with a smile as he put away the menus and pens and went to the kitchen.
Huang Xiaochuan curiously looked around at the small restaurant located deep in the alley. It seemed to have quite a few repeat customers, as eight or nine people had already come in in just a short while. It looked like there wouldn't be any seats left if they came any later.
He asked Yu Wei, "How did you find a place like this?"
Yu Wei took two sets of boiled chopsticks, spoons, and small bowls from a large pot and placed them in front of the two people: "A fellow villager from Qingjiang brought me here. Later, when a few close friends got together, we would come here. As for the environment and price, they are not important. The main thing is that the owner's cooking is delicious, so people who come once usually come two or three times. If you don't believe me, you'll know once you try it."
Huang Xiaochuan hadn't been to such a lively little restaurant in a long time. The conditions were quite basic. The weather in early August was still very hot, and the restaurant didn't even have air conditioning. It relied entirely on two ceiling fans and two floor fans blowing air.
The people eating didn't seem to care much about whether it was hot or not; they all looked quite satisfied with their meal.
The owner was very efficient, and soon several dishes were served one after another.
Crab roe omelet, stuffed green peppers, soft-shelled eel, stir-fried river shrimp with chives, and braised dried bean curd strips are all classic Huaiyang dishes.
Seeing these dishes immediately whetted Huang Xiaochuan's appetite. He picked up a spoon, scooped up a spoonful of crab roe and egg, and put it in his mouth. Although it was very hot, it was so delicious! It had been a long time since he had eaten this dish, so Huang Xiaochuan couldn't resist.
Yu Wei pulled two empty bottles of liquor from his briefcase: "These are the only two bottles I'll have tonight. I'll finish them and go home."
Huang Xiaochuan was just about to start making stuffed green peppers when he saw the two bottles of liquor. He stopped what he was doing and asked warily, "What kind of liquor is this?"
Yu Wei feigned mystery: "Don't worry about it. It's good wine anyway, just drink it."
Huang Xiaochuan reached out and took a bottle, examining it closely and shaking it to check the bubbles inside.
He then discussed with Yu Wei, "There's some wine in the car, how about I have someone bring two bottles?"
Yu Wei snatched the wine back from Huang Xiaochuan's hand, saying, "Alright, alright. Do you think this place is more suitable for Wuliangye or Moutai? This is no worse than those wines. I'm not lying to you, you'll know once you try it."
Huang Xiaochuan looked around and realized that drinking Wuliangye and Moutai in such a small restaurant was indeed too conspicuous.
