Chapter 5 Li Wei was treated to a meal.
Chapter 5 Li Wei was treated to a meal.
"Waffle House" offers simple, delicious, and affordable food, and is open 24 hours a day, all year round. It is an iconic American chain restaurant.
Especially in the South, like Florida, it has become a symbol of a lifestyle.
Even the U.S. Emergency Management Agency uses the menus and whether waffle shops are open to help assess the extent of damage after a hurricane.
Of course, Li Wei chose this place not only because the shop's signature "steamed potato pancakes" are indeed quite good, but also because it's a lot of fun.
The fight videos set in this place are much more exciting than regular fighting events, and... every day.
The intensity of the conflict even surpassed that of a late-night bar.
"Two sunny-side-up eggs, a loose-top potato pancake with bacon, and a cup of coffee, please."
After placing his order, Li Wei sat down with anticipation, waiting for something interesting to happen.
However, what happened next made his face fall completely.
A group of police officers walked in, led by the police chief.
"Everyone has worked hard overtime, so I have some coupons to give away."
As the sheriff spoke, he pulled a thick stack of coupons from his pocket, like a gangster boss handing out cash to his underlings, and counted them out to each officer amidst cheers.
Just when Li Wei thought he should switch to a different "waffle house", something interesting finally happened.
A group of guys wearing crocodile T-shirts or crocodile accessories walked in, then stared blankly at the police officers who had taken up several tables in the store.
"Cops!"
"The Crocodile Gang!"
Both sides drew their guns and confronted each other almost simultaneously.
Then, the waiter calmly walked past the two groups of people with Li Wei's order in hand.
"Would you like anything else, sweetheart?"
The waiter, with a full beard, spoke frivolously and somewhat ambiguously, his face expressionless.
But Li Wei calmly said, "Thank you, that's enough."
Because "sweetheart" is a unique and affectionate term used in the service industry in the American South.
After confirming that Li Wei did not need to order for the time being, the waiter took out a notebook from his apron.
"Click".
The crisp sound of the ballpoint pen being pressed down signaled to both sides in the tense standoff that some were loading their weapons and others were disengaging their safety mechanisms.
The waiter seemed completely oblivious to the escalation of the conflict due to his actions, and continued to perform his duties with a hint of complaint.
"What would you like, my sweethearts? Please decide quickly, as I'm about to finish my shift. Or, would you like to wait for the next shift of servers to order?"
The waiter's words seemed to awaken both groups of people, reminding them of their original purpose.
"Waffles, with strawberries."
"All-Star Special Meal"
"A meat patty sandwich, topped with roasted onions and Swiss cheese, sandwiched in toasted rye bread."
……
Neither side put down their guns, but they had already started ordering food.
Li Wei was no longer in a hurry, because this was like the setup process in a movie or a novel—the bigger part was yet to come.
After the waiter filled several pages with notes, he shouted out the order while tearing off the page he had called out and handing it into the open kitchen.
With a sizzling sound of oil frying, Li Wei finished his portion and started drinking coffee.
The coffee was a little hot, so Li Wei sipped it.
"Snoring..."
The voice immediately made both groups turn to look at him.
The police officer looked astonished, seemingly wondering why Li Wei was still there.
The Crocodile Gang, on the other hand, were quite agitated—they felt that Levi was underestimating them.
"Hey! You yellow-skinned monkey, wanna have a marijuana with God?"
One of the Crocodile Gang members turned his gun and aimed it at Li Wei.
Normally, Levi would not make "race jokes" out of politeness.
Unless the opponent makes the first move.
"Do you think God is the 'brother' of the black neighborhoods?"
The crocodile gang member was stunned.
He didn't seem to understand this relatively sophisticated rhetorical device.
But a white alligator gang member behind him couldn't help but laugh out loud.
Now, even if the guy didn't understand the words, he understood what was going on.
However, instead of getting angry at Li Wei, he turned his gun on his "comrade".
"What the hell are you laughing at! Want to get shot?"
"You fucking dare point a gun at me? I bet you black devil want to go to the fields and get whipped!"
The white gang members immediately pointed guns at the heads of the black gang members.
"Bang!"
A shot rang out, but it wasn't from two gang members; it was the sheriff firing a warning shot into the ceiling.
"Please stop your dangerous behavior!"
"None of your business!" X2.
The two Crocodile Gang members spoke in unison, then simultaneously pointed their guns at the sheriff.
The officers immediately pointed their guns at the two men, while the rest of the Crocodile Gang members aimed at the sheriff.
Fighting... fighting... fighting...
Just as Li Wei was silently thinking that a conflict was about to break out, a slightly trembling voice rang out.
"Is...can we...serve the food yet? Sweet...sweethearts..."
The waiter with a full beard had left sometime earlier. A girl who looked like a college student working part-time stood in front of the food counter, carrying a tray piled high with food, and asked questions with a pale face.
Watching the girl's legs tremble and the plates in her hands clattering around, Li Wei thought for a moment and felt he should say something.
"Ding ding."
Li Wei raised his hand and tapped the table in front of him with his knuckles, attracting everyone's attention.
"Gentlemen, you've frightened the young lady; that's very impolite."
The fun can wait, but "politeness" is a matter of principle.
"You and him..."
Just as the black gang member was about to utter his profanity, the police officer spoke first.
"I remember now! He's that 'Li Wei' from TV!"
"Uh? Is he some kind of TV star?"
One of the gang members asked a question out of curiosity.
"He's a terrorist!"
The sheriff's words caused both sides to simultaneously point their guns at Li Wei.
Li Wei took another sip of coffee and, finding it still too hot, decided to deal with the immediate problem first.
He put down his coffee cup and snapped his fingers at the girl who was completely stunned.
"Snapped!"
The snap of his fingers was like the sound of a gunshot, making the girl tremble all over.
"Could you please turn on the TV?"
The tense atmosphere instantly froze.
After pursing her lips, the girl ultimately let courage overcome her reason.
She didn't suddenly become brave; rather, she was so afraid that she dared not ignore Li Wei's request.
She turned on the TV with trembling hands and cleverly switched directly to the news channel.
"I hereby declare! The 'Lee Wei Gang' will be responsible for this attack and bank robbery! And I myself am Lee Wei!"
The television was playing Li Wei's "declaration" from the bank entrance, and everyone looked at the screen.
The face on TV looked exactly like the face in front of me.
"Call for backup immediately!"
"Damn it! He's definitely carrying a bomb!"
The police officers and gang members had different opinions, but their reactions were surprisingly consistent—they all ran out of the store.
Watching the two groups of people disappear in the blink of an eye, Li Wei blinked and asked the girl a question.
"They skipped out on their bill, aren't you going to do anything about it?"
The girl seemed like an exquisite sculpture, standing there without any reaction.
Li Wei shrugged and added a sentence.
"If you really don't care, I'm going to skip out on the bill too... I don't actually have any money on me, but I'm really hungry."
The girl finally realized what was happening and replied with an expression that was hard to tell whether she was laughing or crying.
"I...I'll treat you...I beg you...please don't hurt me."
Upon hearing that someone was willing to treat him, Li Wei immediately thanked them politely.
"Thank you for your generosity, madam."
After saying that, Levi, who had already eaten his fill, left the "Waffle House".
Strolling along the street bathed in the setting sun, Li Wei felt that his earlier act of throwing out the whole bag of money as a smokescreen had been a bit "too impulsive."
At the very least, one bundle should be kept as living expenses.
After all, no matter what he does, he still needs to eat and drink. And he can't always find kind people willing to treat him to meals.
"We still need to make money..."
After Li Wei finished speaking to himself, he immediately became alert.
And as it turned out, his vigilance was justified.
[Task: Obtain event funds.]
[Reward: 1 hour of base health, with bonuses based on mission completion rating.]
As expected, the system issued the task, but didn't say a word to him.
However, Li Wei was very satisfied with the system's attitude—his life should not be defined by others.
However, if the goals align, he doesn't mind engaging in some appropriate cooperation.
It's like...training a dog.
However, before that, he decided to go home and sleep first.
He felt a little sleepy after eating.
"Rest well, eat well, live well... that's the right way to live."
Li Wei had a new insight, and humming an off-key tune, he started walking home.
Until his phone rang.
