Chapter 91, Level C
Chapter 91, Level C
Sun Tiemei walked into the office, and the fat man immediately went up to her and briefly recounted what had just happened.
After hearing the whole story, Sun Tiemei's face showed some surprise, and she subconsciously wanted to walk towards Chen Shi's side.
Seeing this, the fat man immediately reached out to stop her, adopting a protective stance: "Boss, don't go over there! This guy is too scary right now, don't go looking for trouble."
Chen Shi remained silent.
Sun Tiemei ignored the fat man's obstruction and walked straight up to Chen Shi, looking him up and down. He looked no different from usual.
"Do you know exactly what happened?" Sun Tiemei asked.
Chen Shi was also bewildered, completely unable to understand how he had suddenly developed such an absurd quirk.
But he knew in his heart that this matter was definitely related to the new house he had moved into. That house brought bad luck, and now this strange property was directly tied to him.
"Go to the technical department for a medical check-up."
"Team leader, let's put the inspection aside for now. Xing and I have agreed that we'll be going over to report soon."
"Where should we meet?"
"Still in Director Liu's office."
"I'll go with you. Xing Mufeng is fine, but Director Liu is getting old and can't handle the strain."
The group of five kept their distance from Chen Shi. Su Xiaohe and Chang Biao wanted to comfort Chen Shi, but the fat man held them back.
"Don't go over there," the fat man said in a low voice. "Let's wait until the boss figures out the situation. Xiao Shi's problem is too tricky. It's best to keep him quiet for now. If any of us casually say a few words and get caught in the crossfire of his words, causing non-combat casualties, the whole system will laugh at our Group Five."
Su Xiaohe and the other woman thought about it and agreed. Chen Shi was a ticking time bomb right now. As long as he didn't speak, everything would be fine. Nobody knew which casual remark he would make would trigger bad luck.
After reporting to Director Liu over the phone, Sun Tiemei took Chen Shi out.
Throughout the journey, Chen Shi, who is usually quite talkative, remained silent and aloof. When familiar colleagues greeted him, he merely nodded in response. An unsuspecting person might have assumed that he had been promoted to deputy team leader and was now putting on airs.
Upon arriving at Director Liu's office, the director and Xing Mufeng were already waiting. Director Liu asked first what had happened.
Chen Shi simply shook his head, not daring to speak.
"Try saying something," Xing Mufeng gestured for him to speak.
Chen Shi kept his lips pursed.
"Just do it," Director Liu urged. "Are you going to never speak again? Hurry up."
"Director Liu, I couldn't control myself," Chen Shi explained. "I was afraid that if I opened my mouth, it would implicate you."
"Don't underestimate me. Don't underestimate me just because I'm old. Back in the day..." Director Liu hadn't finished speaking when his leg cramped up.
Xing Mufeng immediately stepped forward to help relieve Liu's muscles. Liu was in so much pain that cold sweat poured down his forehead, and he couldn't recover for a long time.
Chen Shi was now completely speechless.
Xing Mufeng, however, saw through the situation. He asked Sun Tiemei and Director Liu to leave first, leaving only him and Chen Shi in the room. Then he distanced himself from Chen Shi by about three meters.
"Try again."
"Try what?"
"Whatever, praise me or criticize me. Say whatever you want."
Chen Shi hesitated for a moment before speaking, "Brother Xing, you have so much hair."
Xing Mufeng subconsciously touched his head and pulled out a strand of hair.
His lips twitched, and he took two steps back. "Again."
"Hair..."
"Don't mention your hair, get a new one." Xing Mufeng quickly interrupted her.
"Your beard is also very thick."
This time, Xing Mufeng was completely unharmed. He hesitated for two seconds: "Repeat what you just said about me having a lot of hair."
Chen Shi said, "Xing Da, your hair is even thicker than mine."
Xing Mufeng touched his head again, and this time not a single hair fell out.
"Just as I thought." Xing Mufeng tossed the fallen hair into the trash can. "Your ability is linked to distance. As long as you maintain a certain distance, speaking normally won't trigger any negative effects."
"Although we don't yet understand the cause of this ability, as long as we keep our distance, it shouldn't interfere with our work."
"Can I report on my work now?" Chen Shi asked.
"Sure, just stand a little further back and speak loudly as usual."
Chen Shi steadied himself and reviewed his and Sun Tiemei's recent analysis in detail, explaining the suspicious points and clues about the underground community's frequent activities in Linchuan recently.
Xing Mufeng frowned after listening: "Your assessment is that the other party has no special plan, and their core objective is simply revenge?"
"Xing Da, the team leader and I also think this conclusion is outrageous, but so far, all we have is this speculation."
Xing Mufeng pondered in silence for a long time, then sighed: "If it were truly just a matter of revenge, the problem would be simpler; it would simply be a head-on confrontation. But Linchuan's combat strength is insufficient. Apart from Tie Mei, who is an S-level combatant, the rest of the city bureau simply cannot withstand the enemy's large-scale attack."
He neither agreed nor disagreed with Chen Shi's analysis, but at the moment there was no more reasonable speculation.
"I'll go back to headquarters this afternoon and report your analysis to the General Administration. As long as the leadership approves, we'll immediately assign personnel to Linchuan to form a special task force."
Chen Shi followed up, "Brother Xing, what's the next step in dealing with my abilities?"
"Try to figure it out yourself first," Xing Mufeng casually advised. "Speak less usually, and if you really need to talk, go somewhere far away or just make a phone call."
"That's it?" Chen Shi felt that this solution was far too perfunctory.
As I walked out of the director's office, Director Liu and Sun Tiemei were still waiting outside.
"How is it? Have you found out?" Sun Tiemei asked as she stepped forward.
Chen Shi subconsciously took several steps back to maintain a safe distance: "Xing Da said that if we keep our distance, it'll be fine to talk."
Upon hearing this, Director Liu immediately took two steps back, looking eager to try.
Sun Tiemei had no time to waste and walked straight ahead: "Come with me, let's go find Zhuang Wen."
Zhuang Wen had been busy investigating unusual listening devices in the bureau for some time, and only in the last two days has he finally had some free time.
Upon seeing the two arrive, he immediately stood up and went to greet them.
Since Chen Shi had sought him out about the strange dream at the lottery shop, he hadn't come to the technical department again.
"What brings you all here today?" Zhuang Wen asked.
As Chen Shi retreated rapidly, he shouted, "Teacher Zhuang, help me!" His words and actions were completely inconsistent.
Sun Tiemei explained the situation to Zhuang Wen.
Zhuang Wen immediately became interested after hearing this and pulled Chen Shi towards the laboratory.
Previously, Chen Shi had ruined two testing instruments in a row, and Zhuang Wen had to write dozens of pages of reports to barely suppress the matter.
Because of Chen Shi's unique and undefinable case, the General Administration specially allocated a brand-new testing instrument to the Linchuan Branch.
"Move over there," Zhuang Wen gestured for Chen Shi to stand in the testing area.
Chen Shi was very familiar with this process and stood still obediently.
The instrument was turned on, and the light spot swept across quickly. Unlike in the past, this time the detector successfully produced a complete and accurate value for the superpower. The only problem was that it could not be classified into any existing superpower system.
Zhuang Wen lacked confidence and repeatedly restarted the instrument to retest twice, but the result remained unchanged.
"How is it?" Sun Tiemei asked.
Zhuang Wen grabbed his hair, his face beaming with excitement: "Although the exact cause isn't fully determined yet, his special ability stats can now be precisely measured! The current stats are approaching Grade C!"
Sun Tiemei was utterly shocked: "From F to C level straight?"
Zhuang Wen nodded, his heart filled with shock. In the entire system, no one had ever been able to rise from the almost powerless F-level to the near-C-level in just three months.
Chen Shi was a genius of unparalleled talent.
Chen Shi remained silent throughout, but he understood that he had become stronger.
Zhuang Wen shouted from a considerable distance, "Chen Shi, do you even know how you broke through?"
Chen Shi shook his head. Sun Tiemei then told Zhuang Wen about Chen Shi moving to that eerie, haunted house.
Zhuang Wen's interest grew even stronger after listening. He had been working non-stop for a while and felt fulfilled, but now that he had some free time, he felt uneasy.
Chen Shi's new and bizarre ability has now become his best research topic.
