Chapter 599: Two Years
Chapter 599: Two Years
Yu Xia was dumbfounded, unsure of what to say.She felt like, in Xie Qingci’s eyes now, she was nothing but a beast targeting her boyfriend’s family and friends.
Fortunately, this bizarre conversation didn’t last long before it was interrupted by the elders sitting opposite who started chatting about them.
Actually, the two of them were the ones with the most buzz in the living room.
One had mysteriously gone off to become a celebrity during university and got famous, the "rebellious Qingci," and the other was a big star just brought to meet his parents. The big life events of each other’s children were frequently talked about by parents, and everyone was interested in matters of this magnitude.
Yu Xia even suspected that her aunt’s family came so early precisely to probe for gossip.
But she didn’t expect the question to be so direct.
"Qingci, you’ve been together for two years now, right? You’re about to graduate; have you thought about when to get married?"
Xie Qingci looked at Yu Xia and said, "No rush, it’s only been two years."
The aunt said again, "But you should start considering it. Wan Qian is the same age as you; many of their classmates are already engaged, just waiting to graduate to get married."
Yu Xia also thought of her classmates. She hadn’t noticed any of them dating in college, or the relationships weren’t quite there, but right after graduation in the first year, four got married, more in the second year, and a few more couples this year.
It seems graduation is a signal. They leave school and shed their student identity, seamlessly transitioning into the roles of wife and husband.
Xie Qingci still said, "No rush, my work hasn’t stabilized yet."
It sounded just like in TV dramas, where a man who isn’t doing as well as his girlfriend stubbornly avoids the stigma of living off a woman and keeps finding excuses to delay.
Yang Luan, his only fan, couldn’t take it and muttered casually, "That excuse is quite overused."
Then with a smile, she said in a normal voice, "Xiaxia, what about you? What are your plans? Even though your career is more important, especially after you just won an award and your career is sure to soar, if you were to decide on engagement, we fans would support you."
Mrs. Yang glared at her; those words were strange.
Xie Qingci lightly glanced over, his arm around the back of Yu Xia moving to pinch her nape from an angle no one could see.
It felt quite comfortable, but this gesture clearly expressed more than just affection.
Yu Xia pressed a smile and replied to Yang Luan, "Maybe another two years or so. I still want to win two more awards, and he can just take on a few more acting roles to secure his place in the company. Then there wouldn’t be so many people against us."
After all, in another two years Xie Qingci would only be twenty-four, far below the average marriage age in society, especially compared to people in the entertainment industry, where getting married at this age is actually too early.
She stated it quite straightforwardly in two sentences, but Xie Qingci turned his head suddenly and looked at her.
"Two years?"
She made a sound of agreement.
"You can also take five, six, seven, eight years, I wouldn’t mind..."
Xie Qingci casually covered her mouth, "Just two years."
He thought that the question from last night was bound to remain unanswered. Even if she agreed, it would take at least five years, but unexpectedly, he received an unexpected answer so suddenly.
Yu Xia lightly tsked, trying to spit out his hand, but Xie Qingci was in such a good mood that he didn’t mind, even pinching her cheek affectionately before releasing her mouth, forcing her pout.
Then she returned the favor with an elbow jab.
Xu Yan initially listened to Xie Qingci’s reply, thinking the two young people hadn’t thought about marriage and his words were just to please their elders since they were still young, and in the entertainment industry, they generally marry later.
Now again, with his raised eyebrows at the two-year mention, it was like the comfort of eating ice cream in summer and drinking soup in winter. Evidently, he had been contemplating it long ago, just worried the girl wouldn’t agree.
Really surprising for parents, so eager to marry when not even at legal age.
She could only shake her head, chatting with others about other topics, deciding the young ones’ matters should be left to them, as she and Xie Yin couldn’t change their son’s mind.
The aunt got the answer she wanted and didn’t pursue anything else but started talking to Xu Yan about the children.
Xie Qingci’s joy was plainly visible, everyone could see. Uncle Yang even teased him in front of Xie Yin.
"I thought Qingci wouldn’t show emotions so openly. Have you seen their show? Yang Luan watches that girl’s show at home all the time, yesterday I saw it myself, when Qingci was not yet dating her, he blushed just from a brief contact with her hand on the show."
The tone had a touch of disbelief.
The two families knew each other early because of work, Uncle Yang was like someone who watched Xie Qingci grow up and knew his temperament and character very well.
Xie Qingci didn’t seem like the type to blush over a girl, rather cold. His daughter Yang Luan was cute, praised by friends and colleagues, but Xie Qingci had no patience for her, even when she cried after he scared her, he sat doing his homework.
Xie Yin was amazed too, sipping tea, asking, "Blushing? What show?"
Uncle Yang then called Yang Luan over to show him a clip.
Just the famous hand recoil and riverbank piggyback scenes, enlarged detail of Xie Qingci’s flushed and disoriented appearance.
Xie Yin almost didn’t recognize this as his son, aside from the facial appearance, nothing else matched up with the name Xie Qingci.
He glanced across to see the leisurely Xie Qingci stuck to his girlfriend opposite, then looked at his phone with the blushing young man, still unable to reconcile who agrees with whom.
This kid is good at pretending.
Xie Qingci was unaware of being the subject of a public execution again, focusing on discussing the two-year contract with Yu Xia.
"Really two years? Married right after two years? Your brother will agree too?"
Yu Xia acted as though it was nothing, ignoring his various teases.
He asked one too many times, to which she said, "Figure it out yourself, I didn’t say that much."
Xie Qingci then nodded to himself, "So right after two years it’s all legal, I got it. I should contact Mr. Yang to take more jobs, make more money, prepare to get married. Next Spring Festival, should I formally visit your brother? What should I bring so he complains less?"
Yu Xia: "...You’re so good at extending ideas, it’s a pity if you don’t do reading comprehension questions in college entrance exams."
He just smiled lightly, automatically filtering through her words to focus only on the main point.
"So, isn’t it so? Sister, you said two years yourself, you can’t regret it? Since it’s two years, the things needed to be resolved before marriage should be dealt with within these two years, am I not right?"
She feigned deafness.
He didn’t mind either, moved closer, slowly saying, "Girls do feel shy talking about such things, I understand it well, I know you agree in your heart, right?"
Yu Xia tried to continue feigning ignorance but suddenly found herself nodding as he pressed her head.
Xie Qingci: "Ah, you’re right."
Yu Xia: "..."
